| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 28, 2005 Poured flat, and was dark as motor oil. Heavy duty oak flavor followed by licorice fruit and smoke flavors. Interesting beer to sample. Probiere (992), Iowa, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 28, 2005 Dark like molasses in a glass. No head. Aroma licorice, white pepper, brown sugar. Mouthfeel oily and almost flat. Taste molasses, spice, alcohol, licorice. Nowhere near as complex as the regular Adam, which I’ll take this over this any day of the week. Thanks to....who brought this, anyway?? hopdog (5629), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 28, 2005 Poured a dark brown with no head. Aromas and tastes of dark fruits, vanilla, bourbon, brown sugar and molasses. A lot going there. Alcohol kick in the end. Definitely a beer to be sipping on a cold winter night. The only bad thing I have to say about this one, is it comes in 1.5 liter bottles. mreeves (257), Sammamish, Washington, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Feb 25, 2005 I love Adam, I love Fred, I love everything I’ve ever had from Hair of the Dog, but this is pretty nasty stuff. Dark brown, absolutely no carbonation at all, and a viscous, winy character. Maybe I’m just not cut out for these wood-aged beers (I’m not a big fan of Fish Tale’s Leviathan or Poseidon either), but this doesn’t really do it for me. I can’t taste any of what I love in Adam in here, it’s all overpowered by alcohol and "woodiness". Just not for me. Kevin (1920), Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 1/5 | 17/20 | Feb 5, 2005 Thanks, or should it be curses go out to walt for bringing 1.5 liters of this to the tasting. my notes start to get a bit hard to read starting with this one. pours a lighter black than the average black with almost no head except a few bubbles. aroma is sweet raisins and plums with a noticeable "woodyness" and some licorice. taste is yep, wood aged with a sweet alcoholic mouthfeel. chocolate flavors come through strong. a very subdued mixture that is similar to soy sauce is in there. oily mouthfeel. cloying and alcohol sweetness remain, but it is very warming. bu11zeye (5675), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 4, 2005 (Bottle) Pours a dark brown body with a spare tan head. Aroma of "strong" wood, bread, licorice, soy, grapes, and toffee. Flavor of oak, malt, chocolate, and spices. Oily, somewhat thin mouthfeel. Much different from regular Adam. Enjoyable! It is just a little too much-a little too much tannin, a little too much wood, a little too much time in the barrel, a little too flat. It is definitely a good beer, but I think it was aged just a little too long. Maybe if this were BA’ged for 2 years, it would be a little more friendly. However, having said all that, this is still an excellent, excellent beer. Thanks to Kawa for sharing this!
