Flat, no head; dark, hazy mahogany color. Huge aroma, with notes of whisky, toffee, raisins, grapes, tootsie roll candies, chocolate pudding, and wood. The flavor suggests chocolate, port, soy sauce, salt, and notes of a sweet/sour pork dish at a run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurant. Smooth, but not so silky; oily. Higher drinkability than the regular Adam, for sure, and I think I like the flavors here as well. I didn’t think it went too heavy on the wood, though that was the opinion of some of the Texas raters I was drinking with. Big 3L bottle....thanks Kawa! goldtwins (4083), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 18, 2005 Thanks to CaptainCougar by way of JCW. Poured a dark red/brown with little carbonation. Aroma was old/aged. For me this is a plus. I like an aged strong ale, it makes for a whole new beer. Anyway aroma started with soy (like the SA triple) but disappeared quick enough. Other aromas were cherry, wood, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, and alcohol. Flavors were sweet, malty, bourbon, and oakey. Medium bodied with a silky feel. This was complex and aged out nicely. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Jan 15, 2005 Thanks to Pailhead via Wohlfs! Pours brown with no head. Aroma is very wine-like with some alcohol. Flavor is not as wine-like as aroma would indicate, has some woodsy taste along with a little caramel. Finishes very dry with a huge warming feeling. Takes a hit in overall for the wine character. skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jan 14, 2005 Thanks to CaptainCougar for sharing - at least thanks for the generosity
The discussion around the table was that this had the aroma of SA Triple Bock - true (strike one). It pours flat (obviously) with a fairly thin viscosity.(strike two). The flavor is of a beer trying to hang on to its body, but leaking elements of sour and stale. The cobwebs in here almost make you cough. (strike three). I can’t comment on the finish, because I tried to forget this beer before I got there. Let it be known that I never liked Adam anyway - he’s a punk! Pailhead (2597), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 13, 2005 Updated: Oct 5, 2006Bottle: Strong wine aromas with sweetness from caramel and vanilla. Light alcohol. Pours a dark brown that that has slight transparency. Virtually no head just little bubbles around the edge of the glass. Strong wine presence and wood flavors in the aftertaste. Light caramel in the background and a decent amount in the aftertaste. Wine-like mouthfeel. Some sourness in the finish and light bitterness. Light alcohol flavor in the finish but a big warming affect. No carbonation. Good but I’m not a huge wine fan so the wine flavors don’t overly excite me. Thanks to wolhfs for this rarity. footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 1, 2005 Head is DOA, a very still beer. Brownish/black color, murky. Vinous nose with a light woodiness, mustyness. Med/full body. Lotsa wood on the palate alongside notes of vanilla and tobacco, hints of caramel and a light smokiness also. Finish is medium sweet, lasting with maybe a touch of oxydation. A hand bottled sample supplied to me by JCW. Thanks John! Radek Kliber (3957), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada
