Taste is smoke, ash, alcohol, chocolate, caramel, and raisins. Earthy taste. Surprisingly smooth and not too heavy for a beer with so much alcohol. Carbonation is higher than expected, but not distractingly so. Damn good beer that demands respect - not to be chugged. Very enjoyable. mkade8883 (52), Goleta, California, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/20 | Oct 9, 2009 Aroma is smoke and leather, with some apple and a distinctive off-aroma that I recall from a batch of homebrew I had go bad (soured). Beer pours brown with a good amount of light brown fluffy head. Taste is leather and some sour. Really very disappointing. TheBeerOrg (1576), Kentucky, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 5, 2009 Pours dark reddish brown with a thin foamy tan head. Notes of dates, leather, red wine, citrus, chocolate and salty meats. Heavy bodied with lively carbonation. brewolf (42), Washington, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Oct 5, 2009 Black caramel, sweet tobacco, and smoked cedar flow through the nose. A dark brew with an absolutely knockout, creamy head. Flavor is colossal. True to the nose, but with smoke-tanned leather, chocolate, earth, and figs interwoven. Quite viscous but amazingly smooth. Bold and rich without being cloying at all. I’ve had younger batches where the hops have interfered with the overall seamlessness. This ages beautifully, so grab a few bottles and conduct your own experiment. This is a gem that I cannot recommend highly enough. tedovertu (260), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA

Dark chocolate and some sweet maltiness. Also a little rum and maple syrup. Very complex and balanced. mar (1835), Dallas, Texas, USA

Rich caramel malts, vanilla and dark fruits on the nose. Great on the palate with a big caramel flavor that blends into dark fruits with a vanilla finish. hobbersr (394), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada

Aroma is quite big. Dark fruit, tobacco, smoke, molasses and apples. The taste is huge! Molasses, smoke, tobacco, caramel, spices, dark fruit and a little alcohol. Very complex. Damn nice! rcasta (481), El Salvador

Heavy, full and complex. Lots of red, ripe fruit flavors. Looked at the style description and found as ´Adam Bier´originally from Germany, had never heard of it but really liked it. Food Pairing: Duck.
