alafito (334), tijuana, Mexico Jul 1, 2008 Very hazy and almost muddy looking. I got a green apple with caramel and covered with hop pellets. Very smooth and milky palate with some sweetness.
Nice and low alcohol keeps the flavors very present. Resiny aftertaste with lots of earthy tones. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jun 29, 2008 Fantastic hazy sunset beer with solid head that left significant lacing. Extremely fragrant with grapefruit juice, lemon zest, and orange peel on the nose. Beautifully balanced brew with the hops offset by just enough malty sweetness. Caramel, toffee, and a little vanilla are there. Have truly enjoyed EVERYTHING from this brewer. Anyone have a bottle of Dave to spare??? BMan1113VR (2755), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Jun 28, 2008 22oz Bottle at Stone. Pours with a small, white head covering a chill hazed yellow body (a bit more cloudy with the yeast toward the end of the bottle). Amazing pine and grapefruit aroma with a bit of toffee. Taste is a nice balance of hops and malts that explodes into toffee flavors towards the finish. Creamy mouthfeel, good level of carbonation. stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Jun 27, 2008 Updated: Jan 18, 2009650 ml bottle from SBD, thanks Joey. This is a fresh bottle of the spring 2008 release. Pours a cloudy yellow-orange color with a medium white head that had fair retention. The aroma is strong with citrus (mostly lemons), some pine and earthy grains. The flavor is earthy, caramel sweet, a bit of lemon zest, grapefruit, walnuts and biter hops. The mouthfeel is perfect for this style--full and malty with moderate carbonation. The finish is long with lingering sweet caramel giving way to resiny biter hops. Overall: One of the great IPA’s, and very drinkable. Highly recommended. Re-rate: Jan 2009--still just as good, but I thought the aroma was off just a bit. hellbilly (1492), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Jun 21, 2008 sampled with the phoenix crew. courtesy of sparky27... hazy gold/yellowy brown pour with a small white head. smells bitter!... lots of grapefruit pith and skin, slightly poached lemon, earth, seediness, light pine and grass. it’s not overly sweet or sticky on the palate. once again, lots of grapefruit flavor (unsweetened white juice) along with rye breadiness, resin burn and spiciness. dry bitter finish leads to some grassiness and noble/skunky hops in the aftertaste. medium body but it is not heavy or cloying. waxy hoppiness really cleans it up... BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Jun 16, 2008 Updated: Aug 6, 2008Bottle shared by mmtmatrix, thanks man. Poured a clear golden color with a light white head that faded to a ring. Aroma of leafy, earthy hops with some pine resin and light citrus. Strong, bitter hops right off the bat with some pine resin and a leafy earthiness with a moderately bitter, lingering finish. Nice bitter, biting mouthfeel, but still able to have that oily hoppiness. Great stuff. Bhops (329), Dallas, Texas, USA Jun 15, 2008 really liked this beer. pours apple juice color with little head. Citrusy hop aroma.. smells and tastes like grapefuit. Very enjoyable with citrus burn at the finish. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Jun 15, 2008 Spring 2008 Batch. Light golden/yellow color with a small, quickly diminishing foam. Pure hop smell with lots of citrus, orange, tangerine and lemon notes, really nice. Flavor doesn’t quite match the nose, but it’s still nicely hoppy. Bitter, juicy and oily, with loads of hop flavor and a fairly lingering finish. Finally able to try it fresh, and it’s a hell of a brew.
