mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Sep 25, 2009 Pours a dusty dull copper-orange with a thin layer of foam, and spider-webs of lacing. Aroma is very, very enticing - fresh from the cask kind of enticing. Fresh strong grapefruit & spruce, almost medicinal, but pleasantly sweet as well. Yum! Tastes fantastic - really tastes like it is fresh off gravity, light carbonation seems to reinforce this impression. Yum yum yum! Rye malt really shines here with sweet pine sap flavours when combined with the hops. This is dangerously drinkable! Lightly creamy at the sip (or gulp!) and crisp on the finish. It is a crying shame this is not available yet in Canada. Nena (120), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 19, 2009 Updated: Oct 6, 2009Slightly hazy gold pour with a thin white head that dissipated quick. Has a strong cedar hop aroma. Flavor is very grapefruit like with some very light toasty malt flavors. KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Sep 12, 2009 Draught at the Horse Brass.
Deep, dark amber-orange color, cloudy. Thin, bubbly head. Big citrus hop aroma; rich and elegant, fruity, piney, with dark fruits. Smooth, full mouth. Caramel malt flavor is light but solid. Complex and unique, with hops like a freshly squeezed grapefruit. Fantastic! Huge and elegant hop complexity. The best IPA of any strength I have tried to date.
MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 9, 2009 Bottle. Cloudy orange pour with thin off white head. Caramel malt aroma followed by a citrus undertone. Citrus and toast flavor with a smooth pine finish. Good humulushound (109), British Columbia, Canada Sep 7, 2009 Golden-orange ale with fine white head. Smells of piney, floral-citrus hops with a hint of roasted earthy malt. Flavor has light amounts of sweet orange and caramel malt, moderate grapefruit and a spicy hop-bitter finish with warming alcohol. Good acidity, smooth in the mouth and well balanced. Greater complexity and character would make this outstanding, but it is very good and well balanced for 100 IBUs. brianjames1 (322), Northridge, California, USA Sep 3, 2009 Another Brew from HOD with excellent head retention. Pours a deep golden ore color with a great white head. Smells of malts but then hits you with floral hop aromas. Taste is light and fresh with a nice punch of hops to finish it off. petematte46 (212), Dallas, Texas, USA Sep 3, 2009 Poured a cloudy yellow with a citrus aroma. Tastes of grapefruit and other citrus flavor. Not as bitter as most Imperial IPA’s. Tasty robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Aug 31, 2009 poured slowly as suggested on the bottle, a semi-hazy orange with a little white head, and some lacing.
smell of light grapefruit, citrus, orange peel, earthy, some caramel, floral, and a little spice.
taste is of light grapefruit, hops, malt in the back, a little pine, orange peel, a woodiness, and spice, ends a little dry and somewhat bitter.
overall better if you don’t follow the directions and just pour it, taste is more pronounced.
