OSLO (825), Perth, Australia Jul 15, 2007 [Bottle, thanks Skyview] Poured a cloudy golden color with a huge white head. Very strong citrusy aroma that was great. Taste was of grapefruit and there was a nice balance between malt and hops in this beer. Guerde (693), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Jul 14, 2007 bottle Thanks Skyview! Poured a hazy amber with a large white head. Aroma smelled very strong of citrus. Taste was malty as well as hoppy with the hops not overpowering as in other IPA’s. A very good beer. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Jul 14, 2007 Picked up a 22-oz bottle at the John’s Market Place in Portland, Oregon. Pours a hazy orangish amber brew that had some sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Lively head that slowly dissolves and leaves behind a terrific sticky lacing. Aroma of strong grapefruit, some caramel malt and a touch of pineapple. Taste is medium bodied, lightly carbonated, with a powdery grapefruit and honey flavor. Finish is rich, creamy with a decent bitter aftertaste. badgerben (3586), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Jul 13, 2007 Skyview is da man! Cloudy gold color with a large head. Big orange Cascade hop aroma. More of the same in the flavor, but despite it being very hop strong, it seems quite well balanced with malt. Lots of carbonation. joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA Jul 13, 2007 Thanks to skyview. Pours a cloudy straw colored golden yellow, with a massive head. Holy hops on the nose! Very floral aromatics with a hint of citrus and tangerine. Great balance with an almost juniper like floral aromatics supported by a hint of citrus fruit. The finish almost has a hint of pepper. DirtyMartini (194), Los Angeles, Alabama, USA Jul 10, 2007 very nice IIPA...good solid malt flavor without being cloyingly sweet like some IIPAs can be...there was something just a little different in the malt flavor, and when i found out it was made with rye, it made sense. the hops were potent but not too bitter. lots of grapefruit and orange aroma as well as flavor...my first HOTD rating...and im looking forward to more Flyer (118), Hartland, Wisconsin, USA Jul 2, 2007 It’s time to start the campaign to get Hair of the Dog in the Midwest. This poured a dirty, translucent orange, with a nice creamy head and good lacing. It had a huge grapefruit aroma (with, maybe, some hints of plum?). A nice, hearty grapefruit and orange hoppiness. The mouthfeel was crisp for an Imperial IPA, and the aftertase was intensely hoppy, with a hint of tobacco. It’s not as distinctive from other great IPA’s as I would have hoped, but that’s a nit, especially since I’m coming to the conclusion that it’s a bigger challenge to create something unique in an IPA than it is in malty styles. Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Jun 28, 2007 Courtesy of bu11zeye. Pours gold with a generous whote head. Smells of nice balanced citrus, flowers and caramel. Tastes lightly tangy with a great hoppy balance. Wish I could say more, but I’m too busy enjoying this one.
