cprochak (388), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 26, 2009 On draft at Henry’s Taproom on 6/26/09. Amazing citrus hops. Pours a dark hazy gold with great head. Super smooth with a a wonderful subtle bitterness. Incredibly drinkable double IPA. EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Jul 26, 2009 Hazy light orange-brown with a thin light tan head. Citrus and pineapple hop aroma. Very smooth hoppy flavor. Fruity with citrus and pineapple. A little light and watery. tyanow (10), California, USA Jul 18, 2009 A perfect beer to accompany spicy food and an easy to drink DIPA.
I was drinking it nest to a fire after a spicy dinner, so I cannot comment on the appearance, but the taste, aroma and mouth feel were all very clear.
Dry, well hopped but not over done. Aroma is not as powerful as your typical DIPA. Very balanced if unspectacular non-typical specimen for this category.
My bottle had a lot of sediment too, which was unpleasant but my own fault for drinking in the dark.
Drank it back to Back with AVBC’s 20th Anniversary Imperial IPA, and this one was distinctly better. shawnm213 (881), South Bend, Indiana, USA Jul 17, 2009 A nice want list extra from ditmier- thanks again eric. pours a hazy dark golden with a small offwhite head. some big sweet malts duke it out with some grapefruit, mango, citrusy hops. some boozy undertones. pretty well balanced. very smooth, creamy, and slightly sticky mouthfeel. overall, pretty good. enjoyed this. tarheels86 (700), Washington DC, USA Jul 15, 2009 22 oz. bomber 2009 release. Pours a very hazy light yellow with a very small white head that has fairly good retention and leaves some spotty lacing. There is a ton of sediment in this bottle that I didn’t pour in until the very end but it is not just yeast floaties- there are tons of hops bits in here no joke! Big aroma shoots out immediately when the bottle is opened with big resiny and grapefruit hops and orange blossom honey. Once the beer has warmed there emerges tons of white pepper and spicy alcohol notes. Taste is a big let down. For an IIPA the body is very watery and the hops presence is below some normal IPAs. Since the alcohol content is only 7%, I would classify this more of a regular IPA than a double. The rye malt bill is a nice refreshing addition. Acidic finish. But overall this does not really fit the style. Since Adam and Fred are some of the best beers I’ve ever tried in my life, this was a big letdown. mrhoppy (208), Santa Clara, California, USA Jul 11, 2009 Tried it a while back. It was pretty good. Taste a lot of grapefruit. Didn’t seem to fit the style. HungTuna (9), Seattle, Washington, USA does not count Jul 6, 2009 Pours a hazy shade of amber red. Big grass, big citrus, with a candy middle and sweet floral finish. All flavor is delivered in a big way but not overpowering, which makes for a very smooth and balanced DIPA. A rare accomplishment for sure. bitbucket (2025), Kirkland, Washington, USA Jul 5, 2009 Bomber, pours cloudy copper with a lacy white head. Sweet resin and citrus nose. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Sweet toffee and citrus taste with a resinous finish.
