(Bottle 65 cl) Slightly hazy, pale amber with a tall and lively head. Fresh, lightly grapefruitish nose. Medium body with an excessive carbonation. Lightly sweet malt, distinct notes of citrus and a solid bitterness. Not your typical Double IPA. 080107

Bottle. Hazy golden colour, bubbly average head. Very hoppy and fruity aroma, bit sourness, some sweetness. Flavour is a bit sweet, very hoppy, yeasty and with a touch spicy. Dry and sour finish, bit sweetness.

Finally I get to try a DIPA from one of my favorite breweries. Pours a cloudy golden yellow hue with a light- frothy white head. aromas of pine, citrus, floral, and some grassy grapefruit. Mouth feel medium bodied. Flavors almost belgian-esque. While hoppy and flavors similar to the aroma, it has a slight funk not unlike some Belgian golden and an effervescence that follows the trend as well. A lingering finish and only gets longer as it warms. A refreshing take on style in which flavors rarely stray from the norm 8/5/7/4/15 3.8 Rerate--1/14/2008---wow..... I may have been a little disappointed that the alcohol was a little light for a double IPA, but this years batch is awesome. This is the quintessential IPA that both coasts should strive for. The appearance is a lot better than I remember it with a nice frothy head and nice golden amber hue. The same with the flavor and the palate. The balance between hop bitterness and malt sweetness is in perfect balance.... mmmm.....

Found the aroma of pine trees stood out along with some citrus. Cloudy copper colored body with big head on pour from 22 oz. bomber. Left some lacing also. Real good dose of citrus hops only on the finish left more of a dry citrus aftertaste. Refreshing breer thanks Craig.

Bottled. Light golden coloured. Unclear. Dense off white head. Pines, herbs and flowers in the nose. Very dense and intense, almost too much. Flavour is aggresively herbal. Is piney and citric. Seems a bit off balance. Could use a bit sweetness to counter the intense hoppyness. Medium to full bodied. Very dry. Citric very bitter end. This is a very special brew, that takes some time to come over. Good though IMO.

Bomber from Liquid Solutions. The aroma is kind of sweet and fruity, not at all what I expected. It only has a light floral hop aroma which makes me think something might be wrong....because it has a massive white head that is a full three fingers thick and very Belgian looking, comprised mostly of very small fine bubbles. The body is the gold/yellow color of a Belgian Tripel. <P> The flavor is floral, herbal and bitter in the fore and segues into apple and pear fruit notes with just a hint of yeasty bannana. This really doesn’t taste like any Double IPA I have had except that it is obviously heavily hopped. It does taste a lot like the CHouffe Tripel though. Is this standard? I actually enjoy this, but then I’m not a mega hop head.....hop heads might be a little irked by calling this a DIPA.

Bottle from cbkschubert. Pours a hazy golden orange with foamy white head. Aroma and flavor dominated by piney hops. Flavor has some citrus orange and grapefruit notes but not enough to overcome the bitter pine. Has a very cool, dry finish that is slightly metallic and (oddly) kinda minty. Even tstes a little boozy at only 7%... surprisingly disappointed with HotD on this one.

This is a good ale, but I think the only reason that it’s listed on the site as an Imperial IPA is because that’s what HotD (a most reputable brewer) calls it. Hophead that I am, I have a real hard time believing the claim of 100 IBUs. Its body is a hazy straw color that starts out with a BIG fizzy head, but that diminishes to less than one finger, although that remains throughout the drinking. The aroma is dominated by a very sweet light malt with grapefruit and lemon trying to balance it out. Fairly light bodied for the style - IPA or DIPA. The first thing that hits you in the flavor is a light and sweet caramel. A citric bitterness pushes forward and takes over, but there’s no way that it’s as bitter as HotD claims. The finish is a balance of sweet and bitter... not what I’m looking for in an IIPA.
