blankboy (3157), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 24, 2006 Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow-gold with a huge mostly-lasting rocky white head. Lovely, huge hoppy aroma -- there’s some malt there but it’s mostly about the citrus hops. Flavour: Oh boy, that’s delicious! A wonderful hop medley with just enough malt backing it up and a long and very bitter finish. Nice medium to full body. Simply fantastic, I loved it! Bartzilla (441), San Diego, California, USA Nov 22, 2006 Bomber with Naven. Looks almost like a hefe with the cloudiness. Smells like it’s going to be pretty good but sorta bottomed out on taste. I think I’ve made homebrew that tasted similar to this. That’s not exactly bad, but I think I was expecting just a bit more from something flagged as an Imperial. I’d probably drink it and maybe even buy it again if there were a subtle price tag attached, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. barleyPops (1079), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA Nov 20, 2006 bomber courtesy of Stles and shared with illini08. poured a cloudy golden yellow with a big white head. plenty of citrus in the nose and throughout the flavor profile. somewhat different than what I’ve become accustomed to for an IIPA, but still very enjoyable. thanks for the bottle Chris. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Nov 20, 2006 The aroma was floral and hoppy.Poured light with a white head.Had a good hoppiness with a bitter hop finish.Pretty solid IPA. Illini08 (528), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Nov 20, 2006 Shared this bottle with Duane. This seemed more like an IPA to me, not so much an IIPA, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Poured a hazy light golden color with a big white head. Citrusy hop aroma wasn’t too strong, but it was still very inviting. Spicy and citrusy flavor with plenty of hop bitterness. Not an IIPA to me, but this was still a tasty beer and I liked it. Naven (864), Poway, California, USA Nov 19, 2006 22 oz bomber via Jimbowood. I think I would just like to incorporate the last rating (Stoutlover72) as my own. Found this beer to be boring, bland, and kinda gross. We all kind of thought it tasted like a mediocore homebrew. Kind of dry, medicinal, and astringent. I thought it needed more sweetnes. An otherwise good brewery. GG (1612), NorCal, California, USA Nov 17, 2006 To me, a double IPA should be all about the hops. Hops, hops and more hops. Balance? To hell with the balance. While this beer is decent, it was a disappointment since I’ve really thought highly of all the other HotD products. The nose has a decent citrus and floral aroma, but nothing to make you pick you face out of the glass and go HEY! The taste is piney but very subdued as is the citrus hops. The beer hides the alcohol very well, do the drinkability of this beer is very high. Overall, I didn’t find much to get excited about. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Nov 14, 2006 Bomer. Pours an ever so slightly hazy copper with a towering, fluffy, bubbly white head--gorgeous. Big crisp notes of grapefruit and pine (welcome to the Northwest, right?). High side of medium body, with active, tingly carb (no carb is visible, but the tingle certainly is there). Sharply bitter, resiny palate, but with a clean, herbalish finish that lingers a bit. Not much missing from this one. Glad to call it #400.
