Pure hop smell with lots of citrus, orange, tangerine and lemon notes, really nice. Flavor doesn’t quite match the nose, but it’s still nicely hoppy. Bitter, juicy and oily, with loads of hop flavor and a fairly lingering finish. Finally able to try it fresh, and it’s a hell of a brew. CharlesDarwin (1849), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 3, 2009 22oz Bottle. Low fill. Pungent, hop heavy nose fresh with citrus, pine, and flowers. Very orangey. Nice. Pours an almost milky orange, with a thin rim of white. Flavor has a stronger catty, piney sugars. Prickly. A little pear and cactus. Spicy. A very good cross-section of hop character. Ends on a lightly sweet passionfruit note. Crispy. This is an elegant, complex and delightful Double. Continued excellent work! | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Mar 6, 2008 Man I wish this beer was carbonated! This may have been an old bottle? Aroma was nice and big. All pine and citrus hops. Pour was pretty unique. No head but a cloudy and no see through light brown. Looked like dirty toilet water. Taste was the way I like my IIPAs (similar to Hop Wallop) all pine and citrus hops with not much malt to speak of. The thin mouthfeel and lack of any carbonation brought this beer way down. Grapefruit bitter aftertaste. Nice try. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 28, 2006 Dark gold with a frothy head. Huge bubbles and tan. Sweet malts with a little grapefruit are the first aromas. Floral with fruity esters and caramel in the flavors. Thick and sweet. Syrupy and cloying. Finishes out fruity. Pours hazy golden-amber color with a creamy white head and lots of little floaties. Aroma is pungent and hoppy, juicy citrus with orange, lemon and grapefruit especially prominent along with spruce and not-quite ripe summer fruits. Flavor is hoppy, hoppy most noticibly grapefruit rind, pine needles, and pepper with toasty and toffee malt well in the background. Full body and smooth, gentle carbonation. Hops galore! | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 4, 2007 650 ml bottle. Hazy golden body with a foamy white head. Not to heavy aroma of citrus and hay. Flavor is mild and well-balanced malt, caramel, hop and moderate bitterness. Quite nice American IPA. Dorwart (1826), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 6, 2007 Thin head of varying sides bubbles. Kind of rocky on top. Light carbonation. Nice sweet floral and citrusy hops aroma. Some malts in there too. Color is a cloudy dark orange. Lively in the mouth. Sweet caramel with plenty of bitter grapefruit and some spice (pepper). Light alcohol presence. Lots of bitterness that hangs around for a while. Nice strong bitterness; just the way an IIPA should be. Pretty darn good stuff. I forget who sent this to me but a big thanks.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 12, 2008 Whoa on the amazingly astringent and drying grapefruit! I love it - a smack in the face! But it is, sadly, a bit one dimensional. Still excellent heft to the body, great color. Seems stronger than 7%. A weird one. Like a jazzed up Founders Harvest. Malt? What malt? ;)
