Orange in the first sip, followed by some hefty hops. Stayed quite hoppy as the citrus, orange gaded away. Saarlander (1581), Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA

Very cloudy pour, lots of citrus bite, lots of sourness, not easy to drink at all, very bitter, over carbonated, but not a bad beer, just a slow drinker! IndianaRed (1560), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 8, 2006 Bottle pours a quite light and hazy orange, amber. At first glance loks like a hefe. Nice foamy white head wioth persistant sticky lacing. Aroma is a strange, yeasty banana and clove smell. After looking and smelling, I’m still thinking this is a German Hef. Flavor has some of the same notes, but a stong bitter hop character. Very odd. PLenty bitter, I would not have guessed as high as 1o0 IBU but it is there. Moderately carbonated and a long sharp bitter trailer. A bavarian IPA ? Thanks to Buckeyeboy for bringing this back. MrBunn (1551), Western, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 1, 2009 Bottle with many thanks to scrizzz. Pours a slightly hazy gold with millions of little bubbles making their way to the surface but failing to make much of a head. Aromas are crisply hoppy... lots of citrus and pine with a touch of sweet pear or honey or something. Flavor is very nice for an imperial IPA... normally I like the hoppy ones and don’t like the malt bombs. This is definitely one of the hopcentric varieties. Lots of pine and lemon throughout, but a bit of a honey and light fruit sweetness take over for a little bit in the mid palate. Finish has a bit of ABV warmth and a sweet citrus edge. hellbilly (1534), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 21, 2008 sampled with the phoenix crew. courtesy of sparky27... hazy gold/yellowy brown pour with a small white head. smells bitter!... lots of grapefruit pith and skin, slightly poached lemon, earth, seediness, light pine and grass. it’s not overly sweet or sticky on the palate. once again, lots of grapefruit flavor (unsweetened white juice) along with rye breadiness, resin burn and spiciness. dry bitter finish leads to some grassiness and noble/skunky hops in the aftertaste. medium body but it is not heavy or cloying. waxy hoppiness really cleans it up... | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 18, 2008 Bottle, Fall 2008. Pours a slightly murky orange/brown with a small white head. Aroma of grassy and tons of tart grapefruit. Flavor just like biting into a fresh grapefruit with some light melon and a hint of citrus and orange zest. Light hop bitterness. Nice flavor profile and easy to drink. Yum! JMFG (1514), Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 3, 2006 Updated: Jan 10, 2007Thick yellow-orange pour with almost zero head. Slightly resinous grapefruit smell. The beer is thick and malty on the palate, and goes down smoothly. The hop bitterness is not astringent, and a nice dry hoppiness remains. Very well done. jasonp (1513), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 13, 2005 On tap at the Horse Brass. Pours an ugly cloudy, murky golden amberish color with a white head. Aroma is a straight blast of grapefruit. The flavor is pure, citric grapefruity hops juice and not much else really. Couldn’t really pick up any real malt character. As it warms, a definite alcohol presence is detected in the finish. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and moderate to mild carbonation. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I didn’t really like it at all. If someone told me one day that I would try a double IPA made by HOTD (served at the Horse Brass) and would not like it, I would not believe them in a million years. Weird.
