Excited... a double IPA with malted Rye and at only %7 it must be very drinkable... so lets see: The liquid inside looks very murky as light wont shine thru it. Pop the cap and immediately from a foot away I get a whiff of pineapple. Pours murky faint orange golden with no real head... looks like pineapple juice. Super sweet pineapple aroma! First taste is not nearly as sweet as the aroma... much more low key bitterness, smooth and slightly waxy. Soft peach flavor with lots of citrus/grapefruit in the finish. 100 IBU’s are nowhere to be found in this, just kidding they get you in the aftertaste. The rye seems to be missing though. Palate is smooth with hardly any carbonation. Nice weight to the body, not sticky or too light. Very juicy. KyotoLefty (1501), Kyoto, Japan

Deep, dark amber-orange color, cloudy. Thin, bubbly head. Big citrus hop aroma; rich and elegant, fruity, piney, with dark fruits. Smooth, full mouth. Caramel malt flavor is light but solid. Complex and unique, with hops like a freshly squeezed grapefruit. Fantastic! Huge and elegant hop complexity. The best IPA of any strength I have tried to date.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 11, 2006 22 oz bottle. Not quite clear, milky tea with a slim white head. Lacing. The nose says Belgian. A tripel spiciness with honeysuckle. Perfumey bitterness continue the floral notes. Pine needles dry quickly leaving grapefruit pith. Well crafted "classic" style but left me wanting a bit more for a double. dchmela (1473), Orlando, Florida, USA

Big resiny citrus, soapy, earthy hop aroma. Powerful stuff. The taste doesn’t let up. Resiny thick bitter citrus hop taste with a nice malty body. Finishes with just a touch of bitterness. Good brew. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 1, 2009 22oz bottle. Spring 2009 release. Definitely a regular IPA. A hoppy one, but dry and lean in the malt department and not overly aromatic on the hops either. Amber-orange color with a weak head. The aroma is interesting in that it has a wood-chip spice like cut pine of cypress. Spicy and a touch floral also. The flavor has an almost nutty malt sweetness that quickly dries out to a resiny, spicy and piney bitter finish with drying alcohol on the tongue. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. The rye contributes a nice spicy quality that works well with the woody hops. Not my favorite IPA, but damn interesting to drink.
