Great ordinary beer, perfectly made, but lacks complexity and depth in all aspects to really be something. Very well made, but not very exiting. TChrome (1302), Bedford, Texas, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Bottle, thanks to EDA. Cloudy, sort of dark yellow pour. Aroma is strong grapefruit and pineapple juice. Flavor is sour fruit, some bitter citrus and fruit hops, and slightly bitter / grassy hops in the end. Very good IPA, but not as malty as some other doubles. awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 19, 2007 From a 22oz Bottle. Pours a somewhat hazy, naval orange skin color with a thick layer of foamy, brilliant white head. Aromas of white grapefruit and loads of herbal hops, including a subtle wave of meyer lemon zest and perfumy orange blossoms. A pleasing layer of honey caramel malts seems to peak out from behind the hops, but the hops take the forefront. Light bodied, crisply carbonated mouthfeel. Flavors of white pine and pink grapefruit zest balanced by a touch of caramel malt, but I would personally enjoy a bit more malt backing. Great palate with an exceptional dryness and clean hop flavor. Impressive hop utilization that brings out a lot of hop flavor without being excessively bitter or harsh. Deceptively easy drinking, fine example of the style. jrob21 (1275), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 19, 2009 Man this one has been on the want list for some time. Thanks to Mr.Chopin for tracking this one down and sending it. Pours a bit of a light orange with a thin white head. Caramel sweetness and grapefruit peel aroma. Also an intense floral aroma. Massive grapefruit bitterness up front that lasts for a long time. A tinge of bubblegum and green apple working in the background but the grapefruit citrus is what is working the most here. Solid double IPA here. drfabulous (1272), Columbia, Missouri, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 25, 2007 Hair of the Dog is one of my favorite brewers. But the beer descriptions always confuse me. Double IPA? Who cares. This is a nice fruity ale with the taste of Belgian yeast. Head filled the glass quickly. As with other HODs, I lingered a bit before tasting. Then enjoyed. Pours cloudy pale yellow with a huge head and great lacing. Flavor is not as hoppy as aroma leads on. Snappy citrus hops followed by a smooth malty finsh. Palate is tart and crisp. Still quite tasty, but I was expecting more. JaBier (1261), Capital City, Ohio, USA
