Pours a cloudy golden yellow hue with a light- frothy white head. aromas of pine, citrus, floral, and some grassy grapefruit. Mouth feel medium bodied. Flavors almost belgian-esque. While hoppy and flavors similar to the aroma, it has a slight funk not unlike some Belgian golden and an effervescence that follows the trend as well. A lingering finish and only gets longer as it warms. A refreshing take on style in which flavors rarely stray from the norm 8/5/7/4/15 3.8 Rerate--1/14/2008---wow..... I may have been a little disappointed that the alcohol was a little light for a double IPA, but this years batch is awesome. This is the quintessential IPA that both coasts should strive for. The appearance is a lot better than I remember it with a nice frothy head and nice golden amber hue. The same with the flavor and the palate. The balance between hop bitterness and malt sweetness is in perfect balance.... mmmm..... kenb (1100), Oregon, USA

Large dense white head. Very mild plesant fruity aroma with notes of strawberry, peach and grapefruit with some fresh bread, pine, and alcohol in the background. I hope is tastes like it smells. Wow, this is unique.Sort of like an Imperial
German Hefeweizen if there were such a thing. This is not like any Imperial IPA i have tasted..it is good though and somehow it works as i cannot stop drinking it, and the alcohol is completely hidden, but is only 7%? Pretty low for an Double IPA...... Medium bodied. My only gripe is it is over-carbonated, but that is my gripe with a lot of stuff these day, so no biggie.... Now i have never had an ENGLISH style Imperial IPA, but I imagine that this is what a good one would taste like being so hoppy but not bitter in the least. Great refreshing summer beer. Gotta get more! robforbes (1099), Bremerton, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 31, 2009 poured slowly as suggested on the bottle, a semi-hazy orange with a little white head, and some lacing.
smell of light grapefruit, citrus, orange peel, earthy, some caramel, floral, and a little spice.
taste is of light grapefruit, hops, malt in the back, a little pine, orange peel, a woodiness, and spice, ends a little dry and somewhat bitter.
overall better if you don’t follow the directions and just pour it, taste is more pronounced. 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 1, 2007 Ahhhhh now were talking. Pours out a nice orangish color with a nice large head. Aroma is floral, citrusy and very hoppy. Flavor was very much the same, but not quite as hoppy as i expected it to be with a 100 IBU rating. Also expected a bit more alcohol in the mix, but either way this is a great brew! boboski (1095), Alabama, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 16, 2007 Courtesy SoLan via Degarth, grrr. Cloudy copper pour, tall white head. Rocky carbonation develops, fat and cavernous bubbles, awesome retention. Aroma is bold, citirc hops remind of peaches, grapefruit, melon, some orange rinds. A little rye indicated, lemon zest not far behind. Aroma is light and crisp, but very forward, billowing in waves over the crest of the glass. Rye in the flavor is dry and spicy. A rich palate, quite full bodied for a double IPA. Creamy and pleasant but not as drinkable as other HOTD beers sampled. Reid (1092), Salem, Oregon, USA

Hazy golden beer ( almost looks like a trad. German hefe), large eggshell white head.
Strong aromas of pine and spicey hop, some hints of valencia orange for some reason.
Sweet and malty for a second then a torrent of piney/citric hopping cleanses, no scours almost the tongue, then it sort of balances out again in the end.
Very drinkable and feels very nice and light on the palate, which i think is an advantage in a very hoppy beer.
Nice beer but not quite a Double IPA, but more than just a plain old IPA. I think this fits rather neatly in the middle of the two categories. AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA

Aromas are a nice hoppy blend of pine, citrus, and a hint of lemon. Flavor is slightly sweet balanced out by the potent bitterness. Finish is dry and bitter. Good IIPA.
