650 ml bottle from SBD, thanks Joey. This is a fresh bottle of the spring 2008 release. Pours a cloudy yellow-orange color with a medium white head that had fair retention. The aroma is strong with citrus (mostly lemons), some pine and earthy grains. The flavor is earthy, caramel sweet, a bit of lemon zest, grapefruit, walnuts and biter hops. The mouthfeel is perfect for this style--full and malty with moderate carbonation. The finish is long with lingering sweet caramel giving way to resiny biter hops. Overall: One of the great IPA’s, and very drinkable. Highly recommended. Re-rate: Jan 2009--still just as good, but I thought the aroma was off just a bit.

I had a bad bottle of this at Pure Luck in Hollywood one time that turned me off of this. Then I had a week old bottle at the Stuffed Sandwich and this is clearly a fantastic DIPA. Nose is rich with orange, grapefruit, cream, spicy hops and blossoms. Flavor is much the same and finishes long with lemon juiciness and bight pine. Really fantastic.

Poured from a 22oz bomber (Fall 2008 Bottle) and served in a tulip. This beer poured a hazy orange with a thin, lasting cap of beige foam. Decent lacing. The aroma included candied oranges, spicy rye, and grapefruit. Earthy and hoppy. The flavor included bitter orange and grapefruit. Citrusy and herbal hop profile. A nice malt backbone of caramel and a light rye spiciness lies underneath the hops. The mouthfeel was medium to full-bodied and lush. Moderate, soft carbonation. A nice change of pace from your everyday DIPA. The rye adds another interesting layer of flavor. Really tasty!

22oz bomber pours a translucent, yellow, orange with a clumping slightly off white head. Aroma of oranges, grapefruit, flowers, spice and pine. Flavor has very developed citrus fruits like freshly squeezed orange juice, grapefruits, lemons and a little bit of sweetness almost like can sugar. Very drinkable despite a strong bitter finish. Pretty good, the distinct citrus flavors on the tongue set this apart a bit.

Getting notebook online. Bottle, Spring 2008. Pours a light copper, with a solid white head. Spicy and sweet passion fruit nose. Same on the tongue. Good hop flavors too. Very enjoyable.

Pours hazy light orange with white head. Light citrus hop aroma overpowered by sweet maltiness. Flavor is a nice balance between bitter citrus hops and sweet malts. Medium body with low carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. Ver nice. Definately for those who like a sweeter, maltier DIPA.

Another great beer from Hair of the Dog. Probably now approaching one of my favorite breweries. Aroma is very malty and sweet. Appearance is cloudy light brown with a thick head. Mouthfeel is incredibly smooth. Flavor is great with a mild hoppy flavor and nice thick IPA aftertaste.
