| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 9, 2006 Aroma of pine with underlying citrus, and I think yeast. Hazy apricot amber color. Decent white head. Starts with a Belgian yeast aspect! Then it’s on to hop and some malt. I’d say it’s a Belgian approach to an IPA. Develops some fruit along the edges of the tongue. After a few sips it seems like there’s orange in here. This one is complex to me. BBB63 (4232), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 5, 2008 Bottle and served in GI IPA tulip, golden hue with a small but persistent lasting head with good lacework upon the glassware. The aroma has massive overtones of juicy hop esters of grapefruit and mango, resiny pine, biscuity malts, grains of paradise, and a herbal tone. The taste is hop forward but still restrained enough not to rip the enamel off your teeth. Plenty of fruity twang and caress of pale and crystal malts. I do not get the Rye however which is a shame because that was the main reason for me wanting this beer, more basic peppery finish on this. The mouth feel is sprite and aggressive, metallic finish. All around a very solid IIPA and more than drinkable, I would again if given the opportunity. cgarvieuk (4191), Edinburgh, Scotland

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 2, 2006 Poured a hazy orange amber color with a thin off-white head. Big piney, grassy and soapy hop aroma. Alcohol notes present. The hop flavor almost completely covered the malt. I would have liked a little more sweetness. Peppery, spicy and bitter finish. The body was a little light. Skyview (4055), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 14, 2007 Picked up a 22-oz bottle at the John’s Market Place in Portland, Oregon. Pours a hazy orangish amber brew that had some sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Lively head that slowly dissolves and leaves behind a terrific sticky lacing. Aroma of strong grapefruit, some caramel malt and a touch of pineapple. Taste is medium bodied, lightly carbonated, with a powdery grapefruit and honey flavor. Finish is rich, creamy with a decent bitter aftertaste. Ughsmash (4039), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 17, 2007 Bomber, bottled on 4/22/06, with a touching tribute to Mother Earth on the side. Poured a clear, lighter golden with a tall, well-retained cap of white head... leaving intricate lacing as it descended. Aroma picked up toffee and caramel surrounded by cold pine forests and grapefruit extract. The flavor also maintained its hop focus, with pineapple and pine leading the way... sweet caramel provides a respectable base... long, bitter finish with more of the pineapple remaining. Bitterness was high, and the flow was only decent on the palate. Thanks go to Styles for the bottle! HogTownHarry (4020), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 17, 2006 Bottle (650ml). Shared with tupalev, my bottle. Poured cloudy orange with visible bits in the bottom, huge fluffy off-white lasting head. A truly huge hop aroma, resin/citrus/spruce-pine, with herbal, tea and oddly enough soap character, sweet fruity malt in the background - very balanced/bitter and compelling, I’d go 9/10 without the odd hint of soap/coriander. Taste - bitter, oh my yes it’s bitter, grapefruit pith, resin, less spruce and more herbal character, enough OJ-sweet malt to balance it, but the finish is very long, moderately complex and weirdly alcohol-burny for a 7% - felt more like 10%. Interesting mouthfeel - very thick for an IPA, and while it doesn’t look or seem all that carbonated, we could only take small sips as it was very very lively, you had to beware gulping (not that I would) ... plent of astringency, alcohol and even acidic character, nice long linger on the tongue. I found the overactive mouthfeel took away from my overall enjoyment a wee bit, but still an amazing and very alive beer.
