Flavor is well balanced with citrus hops and bitterness mellowed by a sweet malt background. Lingering bitterness at the finish leaving a nice aftertaste. Very enjoyable. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 7, 2009 Bottle fresh from Alan’s shelf. Murky orange-brown pour with a foamy, khaki head. Big bubbles and lacing that leaves oil sheen on the glass walls. HUGE aroma of fresh pink grapefruit hops, a little pine and some pineapple. Perfectly balanced flavour with the sweet northwest hops in the front and the malt backbone balancing it out in the finish. The bitterness hangs around in the end with some mandarin orange notes. This is not a palate crusher on bitterness. Definitely more hop nuances than just upfront bitterness. Wow, that’s nice. BDR (2162), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

Rich yellow color with faint whit head. Smooth hoppy body that’s a little sweet for the style but exactly what I expect from Hair of the Dog. golubj (1289), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Bottle, thanks to EDA. Cloudy, sort of dark yellow pour. Aroma is strong grapefruit and pineapple juice. Flavor is sour fruit, some bitter citrus and fruit hops, and slightly bitter / grassy hops in the end. Very good IPA, but not as malty as some other doubles. HonkeyBra (1344), Lemont, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 10, 2009 Crushed with CaryTheDude and JakeBra. Aroma is like the best citrus ever. Flavor has a lot of citrus combined perfectly with a lot of carbonation. The mouthfeel might have been a tad thin, but awesome nonetheless because of the cool carbonation. Floral hops, fresh as your virgin sister, fill the nostrils. A thing to behold. Flavor is sexy as hell. Hops and hops, but very thin at the same time. Surprisingly thin. A definitely superior DIPA. snakeoilpete (324), Seattle, Washington, USA

A great beer, and the one I was least excited about. Pours cloudy orange amber with some sediment and a small beige head. Smells mostly citrusy- lots of grapefruit and a little orange. Flavor is more dominated by pine. Just enough malt sweetness. Great hop finish.
9/4/2009- Mostly agree with previous review, but noticed lots of bread in the malt profile Then noticed that the bottle says it’s made with rye. Rye bread. That’s it.
