Notes of high alcohol fruit with a little bit of roasted nut. Flavor was much the same, I sure the hops were a little stronger a year or two ago. Still body was good and had a nice creamy finish. Pours an expected cloudy orange-brown. On the nose, lots of mango and apricot. On the palate, a decided hops bite despite already being a few years old, and some caramel and toffee. I picked up a note of peanut butter on the finish that surprised me. Solid, very good, a bit too hoppy for my liking in a barleywine, but clearly fitting in the West coast style. Thanks again, Rob. The only sad part about this was not having enough good friends around to enjoy it. TheEpeeist (1453), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 24, 2006 12 oz bottle. Vintage 2002. Cloudy amber brown with an off-white head and brown bits. Sweet caramel and butterscotch; faint hops. Sweet, creamy caramel, hazelnuts. Hops bitterness and wood at the end. Thought hops would have faded for a 2002. Not quite medium body; a little carb. Still quite smooth but I remember a recent 2004 as more flavorful. Hairofthedog (419), San Diego, California, USA

The aroma had fermented light fruit, carrots, citrus, and a light hop note. The beer poured an orangish yellow color, cloudy with slight head and thin lacing. The flavor had citrus, fermented light fruit, and a hint of spice. The mouthfeel was light to medium bodied and slightly carbonated. ratman197 (3206), Arvada, Colorado, USA

Aroma is right out citrus with lots of grapefruit, orange blossoms, other floral notes as well quite pleasant. Flavor is very herbal as well with those same grapefruit and floral notes and a nice caramel malt and dark fruit presence as well. Some cherry there and just a touch of pepper spice. Very interesting and complex. Amazing to think these hops survived this well after 4+ years. Palate is medium bodied smooth and very rounded.. This was really good stuff that I’m glad I got the chance to try. tricpimp (7), USA does not count | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 6, 2006 Barleywine, what do you say. this had a slightly bitter taste from the start but the fruityness peaked out soon after that.
