2006 bottle. A careful pour to avoid the one finger of sludge on the bottom results in a semi hazy amber brew in my snifter with zero head. There’s not much carbonation in this bad boy anyway. Nose is honey, molasses, toffee and dark fruits. Taste is very cognac like – very sweet dark fruits with a funky earthy aftertaste. Mouth feel is after dinner spirit like also with an oily, flat mouth feel. Very warming, but the sweetness hides the alcohol nicely. This is what I picture a barleywine should be in my mind’s eye.

2007 bottle: Dark but not qutie opaque in color this had aromas of caramel, toffee and chocolate. In the mouth it showed off these flavors along with dark fruit (plum) in a full-bodied beer. It was rich and concentrated with serious weight on the palate. The finish was fresher with some dry/bitterness from the hops. While very enjoyable now I think a handful of years will help this mellow out and drink even better.

Bottle from bitbucket! Thanks Bob! Tried this a few times, but always forgot to rate it. Love these Hair of the Dog beers, though. Would be reason enough to move to Portland. On to the beer: 2007 bottle. Pours deep amber with a huge fucking head. I guess it all depends on how your pour and into what glass. I like using my rondenbach grand cru tulip because it always makes the beers look great. Nose is very hoppy, some alcohol upfront, and some light sweet malts. Flavor is very similar with a bit of hotness. Damnit, this is just how I remember it. Way too much alcohol. I just don’t feel like it blends that well together--at least for my tastes. This is still very good beer, overall, but the flavors aren’t my favorite. Still love this brewery, though!

Very nice. Found it way in the back of my beer fridge. Orange amber pour with small head. Aroma of some sweet malt and floral hops. The hops hit you in the taste. They overpower the sweet malt flavor and come out strong. Good bitter finish.

355ml bottle, vintage 2006, shared with Finn Arvid. Murky, orange body. No head. Some laceworks on the glass. Dark hoppy smell with moderate sweetness. Initial taste of mandarin and orange shells follwed by dark honey supported by herbs and spices. Rich finish of malt, bitter hops and alcohol. Twisted mouthfeel and a joy to drink (02.06.2008).

12oz bottle 2007. Floral hop aroma and like most hotd alcohol. Amber body with off white head and moderate lacing. Citrus flavor along with a heavy malt presence and alcohol deteted in aroma wasn’t in the flavor. Smooth on the palate.

12oz bottle thanks to amc3000. 2006 vintage. Pours a cloudy brown-copper color with no head at all. Unfortunately, I let quite a bit of sediment out of the bottom of the bottle. Nose is of pitted fruit such as apricot and a bit of syrupy medicine. Taste is of very ripe peach and apricot fruit. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with some alcohol warmth. It is quite sweet and has some bitterness in the finish.

a dark red color with aromas of pine, hops, cherries, and alcohol. tastes of childrens cough syrup but it works for some reason. alcoholy taste to wash it down. complex and nice for dessert.
