Commercial Description:
Doggie Claws has a deep copper color and an intense hop character. I use Simcoe and Amarillo hops along with Organic Pilsner malt, British crystal and dark wild flower honey collected on Mt. Hood. The beer is ready to drink now but will improve with age. Happy Holidays from the curs at Hair of the Dog. - Alan Sprints, Brewmaster

2007 bottle via liquidsolutions. Pours a nice orange amber. Coaxed a half finger creamy light tan head. The aroma is very fruity, sweet citrus, alcohol, grapefruit and orange, caramel. The flavor is very fruity as well, citrusy, alcohol, waxy grapefruit peel, some oranges, sweet, caramel malt. The mouthfeel is nice, full with a nice carbonation, waxy bitter and sweet. Nice finish, very delightful beer.

2007 bottle courtesy of beastiefan2k. Thank you Eugene! Pours reddish-brown with a medium sized creamy head. Aroma is very hoppy. Pine, caramel and and nondescript fruitiness. Hops are not so assertive in the taste, but they do nicely balance the beer. Toffee, peach, strawberry, hops, golden raisins, candied ginger, dates, caramel, lime, some other fruits. Medium body and pretty much perfect balance.

Bottle - Thanks to Irishboy!!!!! Pours an orange amber colour with a slight off white head. Wow, lovely honey-caramel hop aroma, really memorable aroma, quite sweet. There’s a whole lot goingon in the flavour (in a great way) nuts, hops, caramel, some serious fruitiness, lemons, mango and apple, caramel through and through, brilliant!!!

2006 bottle thanks to wj94... he hooked me up! Pretty good example of an American barley wine. I accidentally poured the yeast sediment into the glass and the beer looked like a chocolate milk shake..oops. Besides that, flavor is very nice with a perfectly balanced hop addition. Palate is as clean as can be expected for this style of beer with this much hop character. Good stuff!

Deep brown body with a light white head. Sweet malt aroma, with some dark fruit accents. Taste is sweet with a light spice. Ending is smooth.

Thanks to Brian for this one. 2007 bottle. Pours a thick hazy brown and stands up a frothy beige head leaving plenty of lacing. The fresh thick hop aroma is intense and wonderful. A subtle spiciness hides behind. The flavor is sweet with a pleasant dry bitterness from front to back that doesn’t overwhelm but blends nicely with a walnut and raisin fruitiness. Excellent.

Year Made 2005

4/02/2008: Doggie Claws Baleywine Style Ale has a warm brown appearance, slight haze, and a lasting ivory head that is dense and leaves lots of lacing effects on the inside of the glass. This beer smells of sweet citrus and rich, creamy caramel. The aroma is balanced and inviting. The flavor is deeply malty with lots of caramel and aged dried fruits (such as apricot), vanilla, toasted bread, faint tobacco, with some subtle citrus and herbal hoppiness in the finish. There is a moderate level of bitterness balanced against the large sticky malty sweetness. The lingering flavor and aftertaste has pine, is highly floral and perfumy, and beckons one back for another sip. This beer is surprisingly tame considering its high alcohol content, yet it provides a welcomed warmth. The thick, full body of the beer is creamy and smooth on the palate. This is another excellend Hair of the Dog brew. This was a 2005 bottle and it was very tasty, but I think it will continue to get even better with over the next couple of years...

12 fluid ounce bottle (Alcohol Content 10.5% by Volume) from bitbucket (Nov 2006) and luiss (Jan 2007). Thanks guys! I appreciate the generosity. Rating #422 for this beer...

Bottle courtesy of Hogtown Harry - thanks Harry! This thick, luscious concoction has a wonderful floral aroma and a complex taste I can hardly appreciate. It’s fruity and strongly herbal with a sweet finish accented with a strong bitterness. I definitely feel the warmth with this one
