Commercial Description:
Doggie Claws has a deep copper color and an intense hop character. I use Simcoe and Amarillo hops along with Organic Pilsner malt, British crystal and dark wild flower honey collected on Mt. Hood. The beer is ready to drink now but will improve with age. Happy Holidays from the curs at Hair of the Dog. - Alan Sprints, Brewmaster

Dark mahogany with a medium off-white head. Smell is sweet and alcoholic, with caramel, honey, and berries. Flavor is sweet, with caramel, honey, hops, and roasted malt. Too sweet for me. Mouthfeel is fantastic; luscious and creamy. Not my favorite barleywine by any strecth, but decent.

12 oz bottle. Pours a cloudy orange-brown with a one finger off-white head. The aroma is of hops, malt, yeast (sweetbread), citrus and smoke. Sweet creamy taste of hops and honey. Smooth and hoppy with a carbonated finish. Very good.

(Bottle) Obtained in a trade with Blankboy. Thanks. Pours a headless deep mahogany body. Nose of smooth creamy malt, bread, and cherry. Flavour is smooth... very smooth. Great malt character and a mild hop tinge to counter this malt monster. Lovely stuff. Is it worth the price... iffy, but good beer ain’t cheap.

2006 12-ounce bottle. Bottle conditioned did this bottle good. Very cloudy with no head. Aroma of hops, malt, honey, and yeast. Flavor was superb. Hops, citrus, bread, honey, and malt. The palate was smooth, especially given the alcohol content. Alcohol warmed on the way down and did not interfere with the flavors. A truly amazing Barely Wine.

I love this beer but the 06’ version had little to no carbonation in the bottle. I have heard this attributed to a problem with the capping and also that it was deliberate. Regardless it tastes delicious with smooth carmel flavors and spicy hops and alcoholic backbone. Very complex and smooth. The 2005 version was even better.

2005 12 oz. bottle via trade with IrishBoy - Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a big two and a half finger thick off white head that lasted awhile. Nice lacing. Has a spicey floral hop, toasted bread malt, and ester aroma. The flavor is wonderful. Lightly sweetened malt and a wide range of esters. All blended nicely. Medium to full body. Nice mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden. An excellent beer all around. Thanks Richard.
