Commercial Description:
Doggie Claws has a deep copper color and an intense hop character. I use Simcoe and Amarillo hops along with Organic Pilsner malt, British crystal and dark wild flower honey collected on Mt. Hood. The beer is ready to drink now but will improve with age. Happy Holidays from the curs at Hair of the Dog. - Alan Sprints, Brewmaster

Bottled. Murkey dark brown coloured with a medium sized head. Sweet and a bit alcoholic. Well balanced with notes of dark fruits, caramel, malts, vanilla and brown sugar. Slight hint of citrus and hops.

Bottle of 2004 version in 12/2006. Pours a murky deep brownish with sustained tan head. Big aroma! Beautiful sweet chocolatey aroma with thick toffee notes. Big creamy body. Nice and complex blend of thick caramel like maltyness and a very well sustained hop presence over the 2 years. Subtle minty character from the smooth bitterness, subtle tart citurs character. Warming, and just beautiful.

2005 Bottle. Poured out like a mississipi river flood. After a few minutes I noticed a milimeter layer of yeast forming in the bottom of my glass that I don’t normally see from a bottle conditioned beer and there was still yeast in solution). Foamy head which doesn’t last more than a minute, or so. Has the wonderful scent just like when you cut open a vacuum sealed bag of hops from your favorite homebrew store. I could smell that all day long! Kind of a light flavor for a barleywine. My Total Score for this beer does NOT reflect what I’d give it if I only gave one number. The beautiful aroma brought elevated it to that level, and I just can’t lower the aroma. At $5 a bottle may not be likely to buy it again.

2004 Bottle provided by Beerdrenched (thanks!) - Pours dark bronze with a crimson hue and tan head. The aroma has lots of dark roasted malts, caramel and hazelnut. The aroma is a bit musty, but considering it is at least two years old that is fine. Thick body with light soft carbonation. Flavors start with lots of dark malts. There is also a good amount of dark fruits in the mix along with roastiness and a bit of ABV burn. The finish has much of the initial taste with some spiciness and woody hopiness. It is surprising there would be any hops left after two years. Very nicely crafted barleywine.

Nice head for a barley wine. Aroma is vinous with grape and dark plums. Flavour is rich and thick but the alcohol is noticeable and its quite sweet.

Bottle from trade with Dubbercody. Thanks Jamie! Pours a nice hazy golden color with a fat frothy off-white head. After the pour there was still a bit of sediment in the bottle. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, hops and fruit. Taste is outstanding of all of the above items. This is a rich full bodied Barley wine with a complex yet balanced taste. Outstanding!

[Bottle from Beermouth tasted with the hop-bros at Jess’ cosy inn.] Sweet salty barley wine with some bitterness in aftertaste. Full body.
