Giant aroma of west coast woods after a strong rain, and bourbon barrel! Batch 64...amber, rich, lovely big malt beverage monster...giant in the malts, raisins, crazy bitter funky tropical fruit rind, slight tobacco, rich carbonation, carob.

Big thanks to jjpm74 for the bottle. It looks really good. The beer in the glass also. Fine foam for a beer of this strength. Flavor very intense - fruity and a little bit alcoholic. Tastes very strong - prickly on the tongue. Very intense palate. A small note of tabacco. A really good beer!

Parallel tasting with Fred

Dark amber color, just a shade darker than the regular Fred; this one is more carbonated and produces a medium layer of creamy foam. Its aroma shows clearly the vanilla before anything else, powerful, sweet, mellow; fudge; one of the best vanilla aroma ever; harmonious. It has a good body structure, with an excellent mix of flavors: malt, caramel, toffee, vanilla, wood… they are all balanced; sweet as it should be, but still with a powerful and good hopping, leading to a long final where the bitterness (maybe stronger than in the regular Fred) is complemented by a good caramel flavor, a touch of vanilla and some alcohol warmth. Side to side, it wins over the regular Fred. More than excellent!

2007 bottle. Cloudy/murky orange pour with little if no head. Deep oaky aroma permeates toffee, vanilla, alcohol and like an overall burnt sugar essence. Sweet caramel flavor infused with a charred wood smokiness and bourbon related flavors (vanilla and whatnot). Dry oaky character on the finish. Some peppery alcohol notes, touch of meaty yeast and a lingering smokiness. Light mouthfeel in relation to the complexity of flavor. Finely carbonated. Decent BA product, but I’m not totally floored. I’m sure I’ve found more pleasure in other BA stuff I’ve tried. This just isn’t leaving much of an impression. Overall a bit disappointing given the rating and the price.

Big thanks to Brad, once again. I had very high expectations for this one... maybe too high, in retrospect. Dark-amber beer has a gorgeous nose of oranges, cloves... smells fruity and spicy. Flavor has those notes in its initial sweetness, but then a serious bitterness and boozy edge arrive on the scene. More bitterness than I wanted or expected, strikes the wrong chord for this sipper, but here is another one I could sniff all night.

12oz’er, Batch 64, from ?. Pours a cloudy orange/brown color with a thin, but dense off-white head. Smells of vanilla, bourbon, oak, and hops. Tastes of hops right up front, then vanilla, then bourbon, then oak. Very complex and layered. Awesome. What a great BA’d brew. Full palate, definitely coats the mouth a bit, nice carbonation. If you can get it, get it!

Bottle, thanks to EDA. Dark orange pour. Aroma is nice oak, a lot of wood overwhelms the malt. Flavor is somewhat sour from the oak, but there is a little sweet malt and a little alcohol apparent also. Maybe not as good as it is rated.
