12 oz bottle from my festivus box. from batch 64. pours hazy brown with no head and very little carbonation. aromas are sweet malts, some hops character, very typical barley wine but milder then expected. flavours are ripe fruits, apples, some citrus, definatly some lemon, caramel notes with vanilla sweetness. wood aged finish. body was medium which was a surprise. i was expecting a much bigger beer. i enjoyed it but id love to try a fred not from the wood. a young fred might be more to my liking. oh well, it was good and if I had more Id let them sleep for a few but I dont.

A 2007 vintage brew via 12-oz bottle and shared by Brewfiend. Pours a hazy dark copper amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that dissipates to a fine film. Aroma of powdered caramel malt, vanilla, some herbal spice, and a touch of toffee. Taste is smooth creamy, medium bodied, with flavors of tropical fruit, vanilla, with a smooth oak age texture. Finish is smooth, malty with some hop character that lingers around after the finish.

12oz bottle from NYbeer. Ratebeer edition batch 64. Very pleasant aroma. Plenty of sweetness from the malt balanced by a good amount of dry and slightly tart wood tannin. Tropical fruit, creme brulee and tart grape skin. Very unique for a barley wine and I like the use of new oak rather than bourbon. Pours thick dark copper. Slightly murky with a thin white head. Again, on the tongue there is a nice balance of sweet malt and new oak. A definite zesty hop presence as well. Firm on the palate. Not as thick as I thought it would be. Finishes with some nice dry wood and plenty of zesty citrus hops. I think this one will do quite well with some more age on it.

This was amazing. Oak and vanilla on the nose with caramel malt and some citrus hop hanging around at the end. Orange color with faint head. Massive oak flavor on the body with a little hop and alcohol heat and some spice to it. 2007 vintage from Thunderbird. This bottle was incredible young and I can’t wait to taste another one after it’s hung out in my cellar for a while.

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy and garthicus, courtesy of blankboy - thanks Paul!!!. (I had a bottle of this, but damned if I can find it - maybe I accidentally traded it to someone thinking it was the regular Fred). Batch 64. Poured hazy deep amber with a smallish frothy head. Subtle, powerful aroma - dry oak, sweet malt, dry herbal hops melange of mandarin orange and light vanilla. Taste - soft, oaky, citrus and leaf, almost soapy and alcoholic, terrific mouthfeel - the bourbon is well behaved, but this one packs a hard tail-end punch - excellent, glad I had it, restrained BA!

Hot damn... thanks to Brewfiend for picking this up and sharing! Not sure on the vintage. Dark copper color with no head. Wonderful oak and vanilla aroma. Strong oak flavor. Very syrupy and viscous malt. Tons of caramel. A little chocolate finish. Excellent.

[Bottle, thanks Brewfiend!] Pours hazy amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is oak, yeast, raisin, caramel and alcohol. Taste has a lot of oak with chocolate and malt. Medium mouthfeel with a long finish. A very good beer.
