Bottle... This beer rocks! ... Cloudy burnt orange ale with a small, frothy, off-white head. Excellent retention. Oak, sour mash, vanilla aroma. Full-bodied flavor with sour mash, oak and vanilla. Hot and boozy. Chewy malts and soft carbonation. Warming finish. World class beer! Thanks go out to kp for the bottle!

My palate could not have been any readier to try this much anticipated brew. First thing I got in the aroma was th hops,a little unusual for a potent barleywine, very quickly the malts(must be a huge variety here) the dark fruits and finally some of the bourbon came through, cloudy amber brown color with little head, big complex malt ,figs, dark fruit, maple and vanilla, with just the slightest hint of the barrel aging. No way this is 10%. Smooth tastey delicious, I want more

12 oz. Thanks to drewbeerme for this sample. My first hair of the dog, and what a great one to start with. I have not been a fan of most barley wines i’ve had but this was a great barley wine. Poured a thick amber color with almost no head. The aroma was alcohol, wood, and a little hoppy pine. The flavor was balanced very well for a barley wine with oak, alcohol, vanilla, hops, and spice. You could definitely taste and appreciate the barrel aging. Mouthfeel and body were syruppy and sticky but not harsh like you’d expect, rather smooth and drinkable. I would love to drink this again in a few years...

12 oz bottle sampled at the last HWOH shared by Frumpty. Thanks Ryan! Pours a hazy light amber with a thin off white head. Aroma is caramel sweetness, wood, light citrus and lemon, some pine-sol and other solvent like characteristics. More solvent and tree sap, pine, wood, oak, light vanilla, sticky sweet malts and hints of maple syrup. Good smooth and full mouthfeel with a nice lingering finish with a bit of a spice kick in the end. Unique barrel aged BW.

RBSG 2006 Grand Tasting. Slightly hazy copper with a white head. Beautiful aroma of fruity hops, sweet malt and oak. Flavor has notes of caramel, wood, whiskey/bourbon, vanilla, honey and plenty of hops. Alcohol was present but doesn’t detract in any way - in fact, it seems to make the beer more enjoyable. Full, round and creamy soft on the palate with fine-beaded carbonation. I’d love to have a bottle to myself.

Bottle from JCW. Pours a cloudy copper color with a large frothy off-white head that lasted with excellent lacing. Solid woody sweet bourbon aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture. Heavy complex tart fruit and spice flavor with a medium bitter finish of long duration. This is a standout beer.

Batch 64. Evergreen/wood, yeast, alcohol, floral spice aromas. Hazy dark apricot color with light white lacing. Starts with oak, moving through apricot with light sweetness, possibly some cardamom, ending with bitter mingling with wood. The bitter persists, and it is reminiscent of the aftertaste of an aged zinfandel or cab - but not grape notes. Really wonderfully unique.

I think this could age a bit longer. As others have stated the oak was very noticeable in the flavor and aroma. Thick and syrupy barley wine flavor still came through though. Good overall, but maybe a little young.
