ratman197 (2344), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jun 9, 2006 Bottle poured a beautiful cloudy copper with a small but lingering light amber head. Aromas of toasty oak, carmel, vanilla, fruitiness and a hint of honey. Palate was medium bodied and very smoooth. Flavors of [heaven?] vanilla, toasty oak, a hint of good bourbon, apples, pears, melon and light citrus with an extremely pleasent lingering bittersweet finish!!! Thanks Alan, this beer really rocks!
paytoplay (56), , California, USA Sep 30, 2008 Dark rich oak and boozy flavors. Rich with intense length. Not the easiest brew to drink. 12oz bottle Toronado SD. Much better from the Wood than the regular. Not sure what batch. Drinking well and this brew could age for a really long time. robinvboyer (1047), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Sep 30, 2008 nose of vanilla, oak, caramel, hops, and some sticky toffee apples. the mouthfeel is so thick, and satisfying. Wow, what a flavour!! SUPER smooth, some really nice vanilla, and oak flavours topped off with more of that toffee apple, with a nice hoppy finish, with a lingering caramal. wow, what an amazing beer! Immy (1583), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Sep 27, 2008 12 oz bottle shared by gputty. RB batch 64 release. Lightly hazed amber with an off white head. Excellent nose, sweet and woody, vanilla, caramel and tropical fruits. Flavor is much the same, with a light whiff of smoke. Amazingly smooth body, nice lace. This has really held it’s own! stefanje (590), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Sep 26, 2008 12 oz bottle from SBD. Pours a translucent copper color with a big off-white head that had decent retention. The aroma is strong with malted barley and whiskey. The taste is complex with oak, vanilla, barley, some butterscotch and caramel. The mouthfeel is full, smooth and malty. The finish is long with lingering vanilla. Overall: An absolutely fantastic brew. DYCSoccer17 (2036), Davis, California, USA Sep 19, 2008 RB Special Release Batch 64 purchased at the brewery. Very fruity. herbal aroma with plenty of berry-like notes with along with some vinousness. Sweet, woody/oak-like vanilla notes are in there, too. Moderately hazy amber body with a nice, strong off-yellow head. Pretty lively and carbonated to start. A little fruity with some slight vinousness in there before it gets quite roasty and a bit smoked. I don’t know how much barrel character is in this brew. There is a small light-vanilla wood flavoring present really late, which is also graced with some warming ethanol. I am not a huge fan of this, but it’s still decent.
