Pours a lot like DFH 120 IPA. Aroma is sweet malt, citrus, caramel and a little hops. Flavor is dominated by sweet malt and citrus. Lots of caramel and sugar and touch of alcohol shines through. This one leans toward the british style for sure. Mouthfeel is flat and syrupy which brings out some complex flavors. Good stuff. tturner (106), , Washington, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Oct 30, 2008 this is wow. huge head. first beer i’ve opened this year to have the head come rushing out of the bottle. huge flavor.
lots of hop in the nose and flavor. nice balance of sweet maltiness. Great finish, the bitterness and sweet play a dance on the back of the tongue. I get rye, cereals, fruitiness... the nose and palate are linked closely. Not a huge fan of hoppy beers, but this is a pillar in the community. the craftsmanship... this is art. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 29, 2008 Bottle and on draft. This is one big beer. Sweet malty, woody, with caramel and then this freaking hop bomb jumps out at you and destroys you. Fragrent hoppiness, citrus, hop resin, bitter floral notes, rye, and dried fruit. One hell of a hoppy bw. This beer is bigger than me. Beardface (1034), Eugene, Oregon, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 28, 2008 Awesome almost burgandy colored pour with a surprisingly large head. Flavor is full of sugar and fruit and a little bit of caramel lurking behind. The alcohol flavor is present but isn’t invasive at all. One of the best barleys that I’ve had. nbutler11 (769), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 21, 2008 Bottle from Lucky Baldwins. Pours a rich beige color with an OBNOXIOUS head of tan foam that takes at least 15 minutes to settle. Leaves enough lace in the glass to make a doily. Rich with sweet malts, caramel, and mild hops. tarheels86 (791), Washington DC, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 18, 2008 Beautiful pour: very cloudy dark red with a giant tan head (this is a barleywine?) that looks like an abbey dubbel. Aroma is of dark fruits, sweet malts, and some alcohol. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy though the 10% abv is apparent. Some dark chocolate in there but the hops is nowhere in sight. Perhaps this is so well balanced that I don’t taste it. Incredible lacework though! Overall, this is one of the best beers I have ever tried. Highly recommended. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 30, 2008 Bottle from JJPM74, thanks! This barleywine poured a deep and cloudy orangey brown and was capped with a thick and long lasting off white head that left lots of sticky lace. The nose was candied mangoes, heavy brown sugar, caramel malts, some fruit, a bit of citrus from the hops, some dark bread crust. Tasted pretty sweet, of dark fruits, candied prunes....some other dried fruit, caramel malts again, grapefruit leads to a cirtic rind pithiness. Bitter balances the very sweet molasses like malt in the finish. A pleasure to sip. Thanks John! ChazMania (414), Pasadena, California, USA

Delicious yet very strong and I noticed the alcohol on each sip. Great for one pint but couldn’t do more than that.
