As expected, another big, rich, chewy, smokey, complex concoction from Alan Sprints. The combination of the already high abv and the barrels make this brew slightly too hot to handle right now but I can see this developing rather nicely in the years to come. Must find more to age. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 8, 2009 Bottle - thanks BuckeyeBoy. Pours a dark leathery brown with a thin, creamy tan head. Artful bits of sticky lacing. Sweet aroma is malty, dark fruits, brown sugar, and barrel notes. Flavor is rich and smooth. A very well balanced and blended taste of malt, dark pitted fruits, bananas, cloves, vinous, chocolate, and barrel notes. Silky and warming. Absolutely wonderful. I wonder what it would be like to freeze it twice and barrel age it for 20 years... nickd717 (1389), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 5, 2009 Bottle via trade from adamharbaugh on BA - thanks for this awesome beer! Shared at a tasting with some BAs and my girlfriend, who is becoming quite the beer person herself. Pours dark brown with reddish hues and a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, dark fruits, bourbon, wood, smoke, and even a hint of tartness. Flavor is mostly malty with caramel, toffee, vanilla, prune, fig, black cherry, bourbon, roast/smoke, chocolate, apple, and some mildly tart barrel notes. Incredibly complex and tasty. Palate medium-full and smooth with long-lasting flavor and some alcohol warmth. This is a phenomenal beer. Hope I get a chance to try it again. Papsoe (15107), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Pours a clear warm reddish brown with a small, rough off-white head. Intense aroma of dried fruit and some bourbon. Quite full-bodied but rather flat, hard roasted malt, Bourbon notes but also peaty whisky. Dried fruit - prunes in particular. Warming alcoholic finish. 240709 BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 5, 2009 Bottle: Poured a dark amber mahogany color with some tan head. The nose is bright and fruity with some thick malty caramel esters up front. Not really the most nose-forward beer based upon the flavor profile, carbonation and the intended maltiness. The flavor is outrageous however. Hoppy, malty, tart and savory. Delectable! Finishes sublime and smooth. Amazing balance and overall drinkability. Thicker Adam it seems. Very nice. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 4, 2009 Big thanks to beernbourbon for putting this one up in a freebie contest - you rock, Vince! Muddy dark pour, like many HOTD beers, like something a brigand would drink from an iron cup. My initial impression was that the nose was very similar to FFTW, a blend of yeast, spice, and wood. But what distinguishes it, and this comes through as the beer warms, is the blend of smoke and the second barrel variety, with just a hint of dark sour fruit (some raisin initially, then some tart apple). I’m not entirely convinced that it all hangs together, but it’s a very good beer and I’m super stoked to have tried it. tpd975 (251), Riverview, Florida, USA
