BrewCzar (58), St Louis, Missouri, USA Aug 12, 2008 Bottle pours cloudy mud brown with a thin lighlty lacing head. Aromas are mostly sour berries with hints of sweetness. Taste is bitter and sour, currants are apparent with sour cherries. Vac (2232), San Diego, California, USA Jul 6, 2008 Pours wtih a very murky amber body with a purple hue topped by a thin to medium thick head with a little lacing. It’s slightly sweet yet sour with a note of berries. Medium bodied, dry and crisp. MrBendo (983), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Apr 13, 2008 12oz bottle with thanks to SamuraiArtist & msubulldog25, who each sent me some. Pours an unappetizing murky orange/rust with a faint wisp of a head. Taste was berry-fruitiness, raisins and malt sweetness. Tangy with a somewhat heavy/sugary mouthfeel. The bottle seems to have aged better than a lot of the other reviews I have read. The_Epeeist (928), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 24, 2008 12 oz bottle. Muddy brown with a thin ring of beige foam. Nose is butterscotch, alcohol and raspberry. Medium light with a tang. Taste is yeast and elderberry. Raw bitter and sour notes as the fruitiness fades away. An interesting brew likely better fresh. awaisanen (1137), Irvine, California, USA Mar 10, 2008 From a 12oz Bottle. Also sampled on tap at the brewpub. Pours the color of pink lemonade, topped with a tight bubbled head of creamy pink. One of the most interesting beers I’ve sampled, appearance wise. Completely opaque, saturated with pink currant pectins. Fruity currants in the nose, creamy with a touch of herbal pepper. Touches of vanilla and toffee malt, but mostly just creamy currant. Currant Italian Soda. Hints of mild acidic funk, presumably from the currant skins. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel with a milky texture. Big berry flavor with a very mild acidity and tannic skin quality. Highly unusual texture and color, but the flavors are quite enjoyable. Yogurt-like is an awesome description, as is the waxy texture (thanks, notalush). This rating is a composite from bottles I’ve sampled along with drafts at the brewery. I have to admit that I’ve had a truly awful bottle of this beer - reeking of rotten fruit - but the draft and other bottles I’ve had have all been one of the most unique, intriguing, and enjoyable fruit beers I’ve ever tried. I love currants. Rating doesn’t consider the bad bottle I’ve had.
