Commercial Description:
This special release was brewed on July 12th and bottled on September 8th, 2005. I used locally grown black currants to give this beer an intense berry flavor. Made with love, reverance and respect for the great beers of Belgium.

12oz bottle from SamuraiArtist. This is an interesting beer. I declare this is the murkiest fruit beer EVER!. Looks like the dregs of a freshly pressed black currant juice. Looks like reddish purple dirt; no head and just a bit of lacing. Aroma is alcohol, chocolate, and very muted fruit-berries. Taste is similar with light chocolate and light berries. It seems like they took a lot of berries, than a whole lot of malt, and made the berries seem less berry like. It came out weird but interesting weird and fun.

Shared by beastiefan2k (thanks, Eugene!) - very hazy pink beer - you can’t even see through it, it’s so cloudy - aroma of semi-rotting berry skins and a bacteria/yogurt culture quality - slightly acidic, with flavors of berry, yogurt/dairy, and various fruit skins - a mild oak character settles in late, as does a bizarre waxy flavor - bacterial qualities throughout - interesting, but not in an entirely good way.

12oz bottle. Poured a deep and cloudy amberish color with a small sized white head. Aromas of caramel, currants, and berries. Tastes of the same. I’m not overly familiar with currants, but I enjoyed this one!

Sample provided by kmweaver. Murky, muddy, light brown body with a tiny beige head. The nose is currants, toffee and raisins. The flavor is lightly sweet with toffee, currants, figs and cherries. Medium/full body is soft with light carbonation and a slightly warm finish.

12oz bottle from SamuraiArtist - thanks!! Remember when Ol’ Dirty Bastard reinvented himself as Dirt McGirt? That’s what this beer reminds me of - a big, sloppy, cloudy, yeasty glass full of funky Belgian-tinged flavor. I enjoy the regular Rose offering, but this is something very quirky and very enjoyable, like a port crossed with a mead but with some decent carbonation tossed in. Well rounded, smooth, and quite fruity, I enjoyed this quite a bit.

12oz. bottle, 2005 vintage from the brewery. Currant fills the nose at once, tart and berryish, with light touches of straw, flowers and sweetness. Unique, opaque purplish peach color with a fine, slight, off-white head. Flavor is remarkably fruity as well, full of black currant character and an interesting sweet-tart balance throughout, which also suggests grape and strawberry, citrus, gentle sugars and a touch of bitterness very late. Lightly acidic, juicy, gently effervescent mouthfeel with a medium-full body. A tannic, woody character shows as an accent after considerable warming. Intriguing.

Bottle, thanks kmweaver. Has a neat, filthy, murky raspberry purple/brownish color with a white head - it’s ugliness actually made it interesting to look at. Red wine, currants and raspberry in the nose. The flavor is very fruity with notes of currants, raspberry, grape skins/tannins. Very bold and full flavored; plesantly sweet. Very full, round and smooth on the palate with lively, fine-beaded carbonation. Fruit beers aren’t really my thing but I found this one enjoyable.

12oz bottle, courtesy of Monger. Thanks, James! Pours the color of mud with a slight pink grapefruit tinge; pinkish head with patchy lacing. Red and dark fruits in the aroma; currants, strawberries, and raspberries; dark fruit more than red; a bit of alcohol poking through. Medium-to-full, very fruity mouthfeel: intense raspberries and (I’d guess) currants; slight, pleasant acidity and warming alcohol presence; quite drinkable and fruity. Medium, red fruit and bready finish.
