| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 17, 2007 12oz bottle. Poured a deep and cloudy amberish color with a small sized white head. Aromas of caramel, currants, and berries. Tastes of the same. I’m not overly familiar with currants, but I enjoyed this one! CaptainCougar (5520), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 23, 2006 Bottle thanks to wohlfs: Really cloudy murky muddy ruby pour with a pillowy pink head, even after settling in the fridge for a week. Earthy, fruity black currant aroma has some subtle complexity. Body starts with a touch of malty sweetness nicely balanced with a lot of semi-tart black currant flavor. Lightly warming fruity complexity in the finish. A nice, interesting fruit beer. Cletus (5057), Connecticut, USA

Smells of currants, lots of sourness and buttery. Taste is very sour with a nice compliment of black currants. Great take on a fruit beer! JoeMcPhee (5025), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Dec 4, 2005 Murky pink-purple beer. Very chunky, yeasty beer. Yeasty slightly spicy nose, some diacetyl, some currant. Flavour is tough to handle, cassis, dirty yeast, and light spice. Couldn’t even finish mine. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 2, 2006 Amazingly unique look to this beer - it looks like it’s right out of the boil kettle: incredibly murky and dense looking, with a muddy purple hue that almost appears pale brown and grey from an angle. The head is mostly tan with a slight pink or purple hue present. Nose is rich and fruity, in a tart date and raisen way, and the yeast scent is phenomenal, almost appearing as a fruity brett scented lambic smell. Frothy and thick, smacking the tongue and roof of the mouth with a light brett-like sourness, and just a light hint of fruit, which in my opinion is the best way to present fruit in a beer, especially in a Belgian-style. Creamy, tart, tasting like beery seeds, pinching the mouth at times, but the fruit could be more rounded and ’fresh’ tasting, rather than muddy, doughy and yeast-covered. Still, very few complaints with this beer. JPDIPSO (4926), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 20, 2007 Murky, muddy tan pink color with a taupe/pink head. Looks somewhat like an imitation chocolate milk drink that even has come small curds. This one has even set for a couple months, but it looks like it was shaken and abused. Currants dominate the aromas. Some hints of scones and rust. Quite chemical in aroma. Currant and grape skin tannins abound. Sour apple, dark cherries, apricot pits and lime zest wander about. A light tartness and mild astringency meander about as well. Why do I think many a brew looked like this a few hundred years ago. A tough brew to slog through in a odd way. Rough to look at, some interesting, yet odd flavors, still a brew that makes one reflect back to a time when life wasn’t filtered, pasteurized and hermetically sealed. Thanks Larry Pitonka for this rough gem. BückDich (4854), McCall, Idaho, USA

Nose is musky and fruity like blood oranges; the peel, not the flesh. Grapefruit with light cassis and cloudberry notes in the flavor. Finishes tart, full bodied. Nice change of pace from the strong stuff at HotD.
