Commercial Description:
Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. Originally called Golden Rose, this Beer started life as a straight forward Belgian Tripel and evolved into a Beer made with beets, hibiscus flowers and pink peppercorns. She has always been inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripel, which has a low level hops and is deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. This is achieved through the use of imported Belgian candi sugar. Not Brewed since 2005.

Tasted 8/4/07. 12oz bottle. Filtered with a bronze hue. Aromas of caramel and woody fruity berries. Full bodied and sweet. Caramel malts. Sticky and lively. Berry acidity. Bitter, like tart raspberries. Citrua and cookies. Smooth with a mild burn. Good trip.

350 ml bottle from Bottle Barn, Santa Rosa. Cloudy brown with no head. Floral aroma of malt, honey, and flowers (sorry for the redundancy). It has a great aroma, suffice it to say. The taste is very similar to the aroma, but not quite as good. Some light fruit tastes (strawberry?) that don’t mesh as well with the other flavors. Over all, quite a good beer, but slightly out of balance.

Bottle via trade with The-Epeeist, thanks Chris. Pours a dark amber color with a quickly diminishing beige colored head. Aroma is citrus, applem, yeast, nutmeg. Flavor is honey, caramel, yeast, alcohol, pear, clove. Palate is medium body, medium plus carbonation, smooth, yet slightly prickly. finishes sweet and fruity. Very interesting, and I like this kind of interesting. I was not expecting this fruitiness, and this is definitely not what I was expecting when I read Abbey Tripel. Solid.

RBSG 2007 Grand Tasting. 3L swingtop, marked Golden Rose, and no batch number in the oval. Murky brown with no head. Rainy nose, brown sugar. Flavor is all dried fruits - raisin, date, fig. Past prime? Not sure, but still tasty.

Pours a slightly opaque golden brown with medium fizzy white head. Aroma of apple, citrus, cinnamon, nutmeg, corriander, and yeast with a slight scent of alcohol. Fizzy mouthfeel. Flavor is hard to describe, with all the aforementioned aromas playing a part, although no alcohol present. The citrus and floral hops play nicely on the sweet honey malt and spices.

RBSG07. From 3 L bottle (Golden Rose). Pours brown with no head. Aroma is dry raisins, strong. Flavour is strongly dominated by dried fruit. Heavy roasted malt profile adding into a slightly too heavy palate, a little less would have been better but well brewed.

Batch #20 bottle, opened 6/29/07. Poured in a tulip glass, I got no head at all (glass may be dirty). Sweet sugar and honey smell, I’ll even suggest a bit of rose. Pinprick bubbles on the side of the glass, so it’s not totally flat. Deep amber to brown color. Warming alcohol over more honey sweetness. Bit of caramel, too, Wish there was something to balance this sweetness, though. I do get a slight hop bitterness, but not enough to keep me from wondering if this wasn’t a mis-packaged mead. Feel of cooked carrots in the back of my throat. I kind of expected more, too. Guess I need to try another batch. Single-bottle purchase from early 2006.

I was quite disappointed in this beer. The color was an intriguing pale amber but it had a citrus/floral aroma to it. Tasted very light and flowery like the aroma. This brew is inspired by belgian triples but didn’t really taste like one in my opinion.
