Color of overripe apricot flesh. Head is tattered remnants. It’s a bit thin. Start is more veg than fruit. The finish is very dry, and there is virtually no hoppy bitterness. This is more of a dubbel than a tripel. Rather than hop there is something of a, dare I say it, rosiness in the finish. A complex and interesting ale, and it should not be denigrated simply because it has gone in a different direction. Something of a mouth smacker. Probiere (992), Iowa, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 2, 2007 More bitter than I expected. Notes of white pepper, oranges, low carbonation and medium, soft mouthfeel. Some sweetness but quickly overtaken by dryness. Not as complex as I’d hoped. fonefan (11737), VestJylland, Denmark

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Apr 26, 2007 Bottle. Pinkish color. Strange earthy nutmeg aroma, dusty. Dusty flavor with nutmeg, earthy hops and melon. Sweet and sugary. Fairly low on carbon. Something wrong with this bottle, or is it done on purpose? Or are just my nose and palate infected? Anyway, I don’t like it. MadIndian (997), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 8, 2007 Enjoyed a bottle of this with my brother, Black95tt, the other night. We cracked open a 1998 bottle of this with almost ten years of age on it. This was far from what I would ever consider a tripel but it was fantastic. Very burnt amber in color with a thick palate with no carbonation. The flavor was very smooth and complex with all sorts of caramel that was reminiscent of some of the bigger kuhnhenn beers I have sampled. The alcohol was not really too present either. This beer was the total surprise of the night, and I highly recommend sampling the older vintages of HOTD Rose!! Good stuff!
