Commercial Description:
Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. Originally called Golden Rose, this Beer started life as a straight forward Belgian Tripel and evolved into a Beer made with beets, hibiscus flowers and pink peppercorns. She has always been inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripel, which has a low level hops and is deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. This is achieved through the use of imported Belgian candi sugar. Not Brewed since 2005.

Pours a murky deep orange golden, off-white average head and with visible sediment. The aroma is flowery and candy like, and has a touch of apple cider. Tastes almost like a barely wine. Has a pretty thick & lively mouthfeel. Has an herbal malt character, mainly a toffeeish sweetness, very honey like. Slight suggestions of figs, prunes and a slightly bitter, toffee-like finish. Not bad, not great.

Batch 40 bottle shared with Chuck. The beer pours to a glowing amber body with foamy white head. The aroma is floral grains, light yeast, pepper, strawberries, and granola. The flavor is floral granola. Decent spicy palate with a nice texture, good carbonation, light tartness. 7, 3, 7, 4, 14 = 3.5

Sampled an unknown 3 liter vintage of Golden Rose at RBSG 2007 (but it looked pretty old). The ink wiped off of the batch number. Pours to a dark brown body with no head. The aroma is heavy on the dark raisins, dates, and figs with lots of caramelized malt. The flavor is dark sweet raisins, rich sweet barley, and tripel yeasts. Very complex and oh so delicious. The palate is fruity and rich. Sweet and raisin like, Nice. Thanks to whomever brought this!

batch 40 lightly glowing copper color w/ a full off white head w/ some decent lacing. Aroma of some light belgian notes w/ a definate pepper and light alcohol candied sugars. Palate is light and fluffy well caoted and ligtly creamy. Flavor is bread dough candied sugars a good amount of spice pepper and light clove a bunch of sweet sugars. The spice dominates a bit but not really in a bad way. It’s an odd tripel but decent.

oh boy, i’m gonna have trouble finishing this one. Smells like peanut butter. Kind of tastes like peanut butter. Kind of an alcohol and pepper taste too. It is a complex beer with many flavors but some things should not be put into a beer. Probably the worst triple I’ve ever had. I don’t think it should call itself a triple, either. A lot darker than most triples too. Passable. Maybe if you like saisons or something you should try this......(3 minutes later) god, this is awful. It tastes like a bad long island iced tea.

[002] 355mL. Earthy broth aroma. Cloudy brown red colouring, head went quickly, not bubbly. Lightly bitter taste, lightly acidic, with main beety, earthy, and some spice overtones. Thick, not creamy, presence of alcohol is strong. Overall, a little too much soil for me -- reminds me of garden worms.

Brown color with ruby red highlights. The aroma is of a faint lambic type with some skunk on it. The taste is very yeasty, bread like, and has hints of spices and cherry. The yeast flavor is strongest though. There is also a taste in this beer that I’ve gotten from every HOTD product I’ve had, and I can’t place. I’m guessing it’s from the yeast. Overall, this was a good tripel.

Bottle. Batch number 38. My batch is more of light amber/orange color with a small white head. Nose is strange--smells like a typical belgian strong ale with hints of rotting vegetables (a friend had warned me about this...maybe this is the beets?) Flavor is more like a light belgian triple, but with more BSA characteristics. Not as bad as I heard, but still not as impressive as the Adam or many American versions of the style.

Muddy brown color – sharp quickly dissipating white head - nose of honey , cream , sour red cherries , hay / grass , cobwebs , and malts - taste of sour red cherries , grapefruits , orange peels , malts , brown sugar , citrus ( both lemon and lime ) , and chocolate - medium body semi acidic and bubbly - aftertaste of sour acidic red fruit , malts and grapefruits
