Commercial Description:
Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. Originally called Golden Rose, this Beer started life as a straight forward Belgian Tripel and evolved into a Beer made with beets, hibiscus flowers and pink peppercorns. She has always been inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripel, which has a low level hops and is deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. This is achieved through the use of imported Belgian candi sugar. Not Brewed since 2005.

Bottled, batch 37. Hazy orange colour with mediumsized head. Fruits, alcohol and yeast in aroma. Also some peachy hints. Glavour is sweet fruity with hints of peaches, strong alcoholic sting. Quite dry and hoppy aftertaste.

Bottled Batch 37
Hazy, orange color. Creamy steady white head. Fruity (apricot, mango), yeasty nose with alcoholic notes. Medium to full-bodied. Fruity, starting sweetish with banana and apricot esters. Bitter finish with some alcohol presence.

Bottle @ Oliver Twist, Stockholm Batch No. 37
Almost an Orval like colour. Yeasty, fruity and breadlike aroma. Slightly sour too. Alsmost to the border of being off? Sour taste as well, with mandarine dominated fruitsalad leftover juice. Too funky for me.

12 oz bottle (Batch 40)

This is a rerate which confirmed my original assessment. Even after many trippels I’ve yet to find one quite like this. It is a blend of west coast and European influences. Hair of the Dog has a solid beer on their hands here. As they expand I expect this might be a good seller.

Aroma / Appearance - The rosy red body was protected by a half finger foamy head that settles fast. Minimal lacing leaves a trace of film but nothing that leaves the impression of strong alcohol. Cherry, white wine and sweet taffy combine to leave the scent of a salt water treat dropped in alcohol.

Flavor / Palate - The alcohol is obvious at the start but then begins to fade. As it does semisweet chocolate chips, cherry, red licorice and butterscotch hard candy. Caramel and molasses hang around for a few minutes after the final sip. The finish reminds me of Sweet tart candy if it were possible to brew with.

Batch 40. Medium sized head, amber coloured with a bit of haze. Bready yeast like aroma with some spice. Not really that great of a taster. Reading some of these other rastings, I wonder if there was something wrogn with batch 40. Mostly alcohol taste, dry, with some hints of spice.

Batch 40. Deep hazy gold with little but lasting head. Musty flowery aroma with a lingering sweetness. Aroma not very enticing. Tastes flowery, almost perfumey, with a ligering sweetness ending sharply with an alcohol dryness. Not enough fruitiness, more vegetable(beets and dandelion) and pepper. Not the yeast character of a Belgian. Really doesn’t do much for me-wouldn’t buy again.

Thanks to Fatty. Pours a hazy golden amber with some small floaties and a smaller bubbly white head. Aroma of beets and earthy. Doesn’t really smell like a Tripel. Flavor of beets, spice and some flowers. Again not really a Tripel, unique...but odd.
