Commercial Description:
Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. Originally called Golden Rose, this Beer started life as a straight forward Belgian Tripel and evolved into a Beer made with beets, hibiscus flowers and pink peppercorns. She has always been inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripel, which has a low level hops and is deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. This is achieved through the use of imported Belgian candi sugar. Not Brewed since 2005.

Batch 38 Head dissipates quickly. Blondish beer with heavy sediment floating through out. Has the same malty honey taste as its Belgian sisters. It’s sweet and that beginning the trail goes bitter but complex spiceness kicks in heading towards the finish.

12 oz. bottle, Batch 38: This beer pours with a really thick, creamy white head. It hangs around a bit, and trails off with a nice bit of lacing. The aroma is pretty bready and yeasy. Also some floral and spice notes. The initial taste is mostly bready. The aftertaste contains some of the spiciness and banana that you would associate with a tripel, but it is masked by the breadiness. Not one of the better tripels out there.

Continuing my dog beer spree. Batch 38 for anyone who cares. Pours a cloudy orange body with a nice head. Aroma has a lot of malt in it yet again. Also, it’s floral and fruity. Flavor is spicy with banana and alcoholic. Doesn’t seem like a well put together Belgian ale. Mask the alcohol better and this will be in the 4/5 range. Enjoyable but not worth the price tag.

Batch 39: Musty aroma of candi, spice, bready malt, brown sugar, earth and figs becomes really full as it comes to temperature. The body is round and very quaffable - noting fresh dough, dark chocolate, musty plums and more earthiness. A fine Trippel and another excellent brew from HOTD!

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Orangey golden and hazy with a fine and bubbly head. Pronounced yeasty nose. Flavours also of yeast and malt with a short, dry bitterness. Pronounced alcohol feel. OK, if not exactly a great Tripel. 240705

Golden-orange body with abundant carbonation and a spumous, persistent white head that required a knife to clear. I could have used it to shave. Left a thick coat of lace. Bouquet is peppery with plastic and orange pith qualities. Medium sweet honey, butterscotch, fruit, and floral flavor. Lightly tart and bitter. Alcohol is noticeable and a little hot. Rich, smooth palate, on the sweet side but good. This beer grew on me, but isn’t in league with the best of HOTD.

Strong, yeasty aroma. Appearance is milky golden with small white specks. Powerful flavor, lots of malt, hops and herbs. Bitter end. I like it!
