Commercial Description:
Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. Originally called Golden Rose, this Beer started life as a straight forward Belgian Tripel and evolved into a Beer made with beets, hibiscus flowers and pink peppercorns. She has always been inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripel, which has a low level hops and is deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. This is achieved through the use of imported Belgian candi sugar. Not Brewed since 2005.

Batch 39: Poured a cloudy amber color with a thin layer of fizzy white head that went away a minute or so later. Lots of bubbles for the style. A good amount of floaties as well, even with a careful pour. Looks like apple cider. Smells are fruit, yeast, and some earthiness. Taste is semi sweet with and sour at the same time. Didnt really pick out the hops, but I did notice some honey, yeast, and spice. Pretty earthy as well. Finishes astringent. Tongue tickling from the sourness and the carbonation. The alcohol is perhaps the most dominating aspect. Not a very complex brew. I expect beter from HOTD.

batch #33 12 oz bottle-pours a deep apricot hue with some light haze. I did a good job of keeping the huge chunks of sediment in the bottle. A small head around the rim of the glass with big bubbles. This beer must be pretty old-has lots of oxidized notes in the aroma with notes of honey, vanilla and light spice. Flavors are mostly honey and some caramel oxidized malts. this isn’t bad, but definatley past prime. I would like to rate a fresh sample.

Hazy, rosy-orange in color with a small, creamy white head with dancing bubbles in the center. Aroma is delicious, bringing out strong accents of cloves and pepper, along with a creamy vanilla composure that reminds me of a warm vanilla steamer. Flavor is crisp, defined by lemon meringue, puce, orange peel , cackled white pepper and vanilla Nips. Earthen characteristics form a significant presence moment before and after each swallow, with elements of tree bark, cigar wrappers and rose petals resounding oddly on the palate. Brazen and sharp on the palate with hesitating creamy hints, causing an overall sting on the senses. There’s no softness here. Heavy hops give it an amplified bitter twang, and it lacks the sweetness that I traditionally enjoy in a tripel. Lacking in flavor depth, and a little disappointing.

murky brew the color of mango nectar. This is smelling almost like a bag of roasted peanuts, peanut butter and an under tone of spice.I guess it is like some funky dessert treat at Christmas. Not like any tripel I have ever had. This is really nutty.

Bottle; batch 33; Aroma of licorice sweet malt. Cloudy gold with not much head . Has a sweet malty flavor to it. Rich brew that makes this one not too sweet overall on the finish. Some Alcohol detection in this one.

Bottle: Batch 38- Poured yellow orange with a thick white head. Big bready, yeasty doughy aroma. Flavor is quite alcoholic. Big yeast notes of course but some big alcohol from only a 7.5% beer. Black walnuts. Light fruit and honey. Decent but seems kind of hot.

Batch 38.
