Commercial Description:
Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. Originally called Golden Rose, this Beer started life as a straight forward Belgian Tripel and evolved into a Beer made with beets, hibiscus flowers and pink peppercorns. She has always been inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripel, which has a low level hops and is deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. This is achieved through the use of imported Belgian candi sugar. Not Brewed since 2005.

Bottle pours peach tinted golden, large pillowy white head, super sticky lacing, with lively carbonation.   Strong fruity/floral aroma, apples/pears and also a bit of that yummy belgian candi sugar.   Spicy tartness up front, with a subtle light fruit flavor on the back.   Minor candi sugar flavors, along with a touch of alcohol and herbs.   Great body, moderate mouthfeel.   Finishes spicy, light alcohol, but the fruity/floral flavors aren’t as apparent.   Tasty, but could stand to be less spicy.

Sampled from bottle at Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival 2004 (#11).
Small white head on a hazy orange golden body. Nice and fresh acidic fruity and citrusy aroma with grapefruit notes. Tart and sour grapefruity flavor. Very different and rather sharp in the taste. Notes of melon and berries. Very good for a tripel, probably because it is not very tripel-like....!!

Batch 20: This poured a hazy almond color with no head. The aroma is of very sweet malts, honey, and alcohol. Drinking this is like drinking wine. The taste is quite malty and candy sweet, but the alcohol warmth is always present. It’s got a very dry malt and alcohol finish. Warming.

Bottle reads Golden Rose. Batch # 32. Pours beautiful; shiny, clear, and brown with read and orange hues. No real head though. Big malt aroma which pushes out a faint bitterness and warm alcohol. Nice smooth malt sweetness along with a big plum and raisin feel that foes nice with the mild alcohol presence.

Floral aromas, nice and sweet. The appearance is great, a nice yellow-copper color with plenty of sediment. The flavor is pretty sweet with some fruits and the use of the candi sugar is very clear. The alcohol in the beer is very apparent. Mouthfeel is sticky, as a tripel should be. A very enjoyable beer.
