Commercial Description:
Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. Originally called Golden Rose, this Beer started life as a straight forward Belgian Tripel and evolved into a Beer made with beets, hibiscus flowers and pink peppercorns. She has always been inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripel, which has a low level hops and is deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. This is achieved through the use of imported Belgian candi sugar. Not Brewed since 2005.

Batch 20. Pours burnt orange with no head and very little carbonation. Nose is malty, candi sugar. Flavor is of plumy raisins, somewhat toffeish. Alcohol presence noted.

A hazy yellow pour with a foamy head that lasts for a while, but eventually disappears. Aroma of grains and yeast. To me, the taste that really stood out was that of pumpernickel bread. More yeast along with some malt and spice in there. Really felt like a thick and chewy beer. A new favorite of mine!

This tripel is very good. Pours cloudy yellow with a nice soft head. Yeasty, tart, dry aroma. Fruity and robust. Bananas, hard fruits, apples, spices and tartness. This is a very pleasant offering from hair of the dog!

This was a very nice tripel. The smell was wonderful and fruity, the taste was very similar and the finish was semi-dry. It is worth trying and a nice American version of the style.

Batch #38. Pours a hazy yellow in color with an averaged sized white head. Decent lacing. Yesty, spicy, and fruity smells with hints of lemon. Sweet, fruity and spicy tastes. Overly fizzy body for my taste.

Batch 38. Rose is marquerading as a trippel. She has the full floral aroma and rich golden and bubbling appearnace of a tripel, but she tastes more like an english ale, with only a hint of a belgian strong. The roasted mustiness of the flavor shows hints of her brother Adam, and is not appropriate with the candi sugar and belgian yeast. The mouthfeel is fantastic, slick and pure honey. Sweet and not dry at all in the finish. The yeast in this bottle was impossible to keep out of my Chimay chalice - no matter how smooth and slow the pour.

Aroma has lots of caramel, some bananna and lemon notes, is sweet and bready. Color is a nice burnt orange, pretty cloudy, with a medium sized off white head. Flavor is smooth, sweet, creamy, malty, a good amount of caramel with some very faint orange notes, a touch of bitterness, and a warming alcohol finish. Significant amount of carbonation. The odd thing about this brew is that it is nothing like a tripel. No candi sugar, pretty dark in color. If I had to peg down a style for this, I'd call is a low abv barleywine, or something like that. My rating, however, is based on my enjoyment of the beer per se. I did not take into account any "true to style" points.
