Spicy, citrus and vanilla aroma. The taste was all vanilla nicely balanced with mellow yeastiness. This was fantastic. Sweet, sticky, spicy and just the right bitterness. The aroma is sweet with notes of yeast and cloves - and so is the flavor. An OK beer. mnbeerguy (11), Northfield, Minnesota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 7, 2004 Pours a cloudy yellow. Smells fantastic, with all the yeast you want. Balanced flavor, almost too balanced. It seems to be a very PNW interpretation of a tripel, as i found the hops to be much more dominant that in your average belgian tripel. All in all, another fantastic, unique beer from HOTD. ontario102 (794), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 7, 2004 Huge head on this; banana and pear nose; somewhat dark for a tripel? Tastes somewhat winey, fruity, and tart, slightly astringent; nice aftertaste; balanced toward the dry side. Generally very good, but *way* overpriced for what it is.... Pours a beautiful orangish brown with a *huge* head that completely coated the side of my Orval glass. The head was so huge that I barely fit the bottle into two glasses. I tried to be careful, but it was just way too foamy.
The aroma got nicer as the beer warmed. Subtle fruits are very apparent typical for a Tripel, but a little sweeter.
Taste bombs. After reading the other reviews I'm sure I have a bad bottle, but there is a *serious* metalic taste going on. It's not just an aftertast but the taste in general. Aside from that it's not bad and has the typical Tripel flavors, but even as the glass warms I can't get past the taste.
Mouthfeel is average, but I'm likely biased by this point. Overall I shouldn't comment. I love this brewery (it's received the only perfect score I've ever given for its Doggie Claws), but this was bad.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 23, 2004 Sweet, spicy, slight hop bitterness. This was a smooth drinking tripel. I didn't taste the alcohol at all, the flavors were to complex with fruit and caramel. Great overall.
