Commercial Description:
Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. Originally called Golden Rose, this Beer started life as a straight forward Belgian Tripel and evolved into a Beer made with beets, hibiscus flowers and pink peppercorns. She has always been inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripel, which has a low level hops and is deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. This is achieved through the use of imported Belgian candi sugar. Not Brewed since 2005.

12 oz. bottle - pours reddish-orange and thin with off-white head and slight haze; aromas of sweet fruit, bread and nuts; thin body and aftertaste of dry fruit; per the HofD norm, it packs a mouthful of flavor and creamy texture, just an odd mix of sweetness and malts

Batch Number 39

4/02/2008: Rose Belgian Tripel Style Ale (Bottle Conditioned) pours a cloudy deep gold/copper color. There is an ample amount of lively carbonation and the fizzy off-white head doesn’t last very long. The aroma is sweet and conjurs up various things in my mind including sugar cookies, Hawaiian bread, and apple strudel. Deep down there is also some subtle caramelized candi sugar. The flavor is also quite good for a Tripel. At first the sweet maltiness and fruitiness reminds me of cooked homemade applesauce that is still warm. The middle has some darker fruits (fig?) and dark caramelized candi sugar. The finish is slightly more dry, crisp, and has a touch of floral honey flavor and floral bitterness. The alcohol provides a nice warming sensation like apple brandy. This beer has a medium body that has a generous level of carbonation on the palate without being too prickly or fizzy. This beer goes down amazing fast and it fairly complex and quite tasty. Overall this is an excellent Tripel from an excellend brewery!

12 fluid ounce bottle (Alcohol Content 7.5% by Volume) from my sister. Thanks sis! I appreciate the thought! Rating #453 for this beer...

Bottle - Volo: Ruby red with a white head that disappeared very quickly. Sour-altar wine aroma, Harry said it reminded him of the smell of corn kept in silos. Flavour: Interesting; bitter root vegetable, very earthy with some spices. Interesting, not bad at all.

Flaske. Meget mørk trippel med en duft af lidt muldet gær. I det hele taget er den en smule "for gammel" i smagen med en bismag af metallisk stald. Ikke særlig ophidsende på nogen måde.

Thanks to Ramenen. Bottle: Extremely fizzy, tons of carbonation. Alcohol overpowers the sweeter and floral flavours. A bit unbalanced.

Bottle. Bought at New Beer Distributors in NYC. Pours into a rich golden color with a lot carbonation. Be careful when you pour since it has sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Overall excellent, fruity and yeast with a strong alcohol predominance at the bottom of your tongue. Needs just a little bit of balance with the alcohol.

Bottle, batch 34. Big malty aroma is hugely floral at first, levels off to sweet toffee and caramel malt and a nice layer of yeast. Dash of brown sugar and a little alcohol coming through. Much darker than expected, a nice, deep, barely-translucent mahogany with a scant lacing off-white head. Classic (!) tripel mouthfeel, lastingly crisp carbonation that doesn’t reduce to fizziness, even for a second, and a full, sweetly alcoholic body. Bit of a Skittles sheen, even into the aftertaste. Dry and yeasty toward the back with a lightly herbal and minty note at finish. Medium-light clove and lighter orange rind. Potent flowery, heathery notes. Touch of wheat and prune. Light bitterness. Much denser and more complex than found in most examples of the style. Quite a fan of this brewer.

Batch 40. Cloudy rust and thin eggshell foam. Aroma is a slow unraveling of sweet vanilla, floral perfume and apple cider into rotted root vegetables and pears left in the sun. Festering strangeness. Flavor is soapy and pungent with sweet peppercorns, flower petals and beet; densely spiced, ridden with poppyseed and black pepper. Sweetness of white nuts. Apples, pears, rotten bananas, and salted fish linger as afterthoughts. Palate is medium to full; tart with a pulse of apple cider vinegar and softly carbonated. Finishes with the rubber of cheap chardonnay and some smacking of floral honey. An odd experience; at moments, intricately woven and weirdly intriguing. At times wholly and unflinchingly off putting. Too many stray elements here; the vegetable and flower qualities carry a distinct mildew character about them.
