Commercial Description:
Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. Originally called Golden Rose, this Beer started life as a straight forward Belgian Tripel and evolved into a Beer made with beets, hibiscus flowers and pink peppercorns. She has always been inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripel, which has a low level hops and is deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. This is achieved through the use of imported Belgian candi sugar. Not Brewed since 2005.

12 oz bottle at Volo - poured an opaque reddish orange with an off-white head. Beautiful fresh floral aroma filled with rosehip, sour cherry and lemon. Flavour quite nice, mainly sweet with some tartness bringing up the rear and a small dose of hops. This is a very unique "tripel", and is certainly one of the more interesting beers I’ve had. Very well-crafted. I look forward to trying more of the Hair of the Dog brews.

Poured hazy yellow with a white head. Aroma of fruit and candy. Over the top malt flavor. Too sweet for me. Lots of candy.

12oz bottle, Batch #40. Pours a brown/red color with a thin, somewhat fizzy head that fades pretty quick. Smells like beets and earthiness. Tastes like beets as well, alot like beets. A little bit of a weird floweriness as well. Somewhat thick mouthfeel, good carbonation. If you like beets this beer is great, if not, not so good.

Batch 32. Clear amber with no head. Fruity peach and caramel smell. Decent sweet taste of figs, peaches, and caramel. Finishes with a mild alcohol bite. 32806

Sampled blind at "Better Know a Style: Abbey Tripel". bottle labeled as "Golden Rose" as this bottle is probably from early 2000. Dark red/brown color with slightly hazy slight beige/tan head. Aged bourbon and dark fruit aroma. Cookie dough flavor with alc, caramel, sweet toffee, oxidized, tar, alc and sherry. Sharp medium body with still carbonation. Nice aged barleywine.

12 oz bottle batch 38 from Santa (crizay). Aroma is thick and sticky with plenty of cane sugar syrup, melon sweetness, charred caramel. Malt overshadows the yeast component. Pours a foul looking muddy, chunky dark orange/brown. Ugh. Looks like tepid swampwater. Thankfully, it does not taste like pond. Chocolate yeast. Loads of bread dough and crust. Nutty pistachio. Slightly funky and dirty. Lively carbonation with a rather alcoholic finish.

Definitely a fruity aroma and character. Well made triple hides it strong alcohol content well. You’ll enjoy this one.

Sampled blind at "Better Know a Style: Abbey Tripel". Bottle from early 2000. Pours a brown amber red with no head. Aged malts in the nose. Oxidized, toffee, sweet. Malt flavors very grapey/cherry and winey. Tar, toffee, and a good dose of oxidation. Interesting beer, but I’m one who doesn’t mind oxidization as much as others.
