Commercial Description:
Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. Originally called Golden Rose, this Beer started life as a straight forward Belgian Tripel and evolved into a Beer made with beets, hibiscus flowers and pink peppercorns. She has always been inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripel, which has a low level hops and is deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. This is achieved through the use of imported Belgian candi sugar. Not Brewed since 2005.

sampled blind at "Better Know a Style: Abbey Tripel". bottle labeled as "Golden Rose" as this bottle is probably from early 2000. pours amber with white head. nose of sweet, caramelized, sherry. really oxidized. flavor is sweet caramel, toffee, very oxidized. fizzy mouth feel. this actually held up pretty well but i’ll have to re-rate a fresh bottle.

Pours a hazy mahogany with no head. Nose is bitter, but the flavor is quite unique, with just a hint of bitterness and a underlying sweetness. Sweet finsh, also. Pretty complex beer.

Bottle, brough from US by the old Mrs... Quickly receeding head, big bubbles. Some fruit (difficult to define, not hoppy, not yeasty..). Very malt-dominated, reminds me of a mix between a doppelbock and a tripel. Interesting.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with dirty_martini. Batch #41. Pours a cloudy rust color with a thin linen white head that disappeared about one-third of the way through. Very earthy aroma, really smells like freshly dug dirt when I work in the garden. Some brown sugar notes in there as well. Despite the sugar, there is no sweetness to speak of in the flavor. Plenty of that same earthy quality though, as in the aroma. Some malt in there as well. Lacks depth. Not a very good tripel.

Bottle. Pours hazy orange with small, but resilient, off white head. The aroma is spicy malts and a strange sour, vegetal note. The flavor is the same, with spicy malt, green apples, caraway seed, and some mild vegetation. Mediocre.

Pours a slightly hazy red amber with a small very lightly pink head. Slightly sour with a light sweetness and some bittereness. Bad aromas of pepper and vegetables like cabbage and cekkary. Medium bodied with a slightly oily mouthfeel. Short chalky and dry finish. Den var dårlig - til gengæld var den dyr.

355ml bottle, batch 41 and 7.5% ABV, at home late on Halloween. Presents itself with an one-finger, off-white head resting over an unclear, reddish-brown body. Weak acidulous aroma added by a touch of yeast. Initial tangy tartness in flavour before yeasty spiciness takes over balanced by hints of candy sweetness. Medium to full palate. Alright, but undefineable and a bit too much yeast for my taste (bottle from Barley Wine, Copenhagen) (31.10.2007).

Bottle. Aroma of fruit / oranges / apples, sweet malt, sugar, caramel, and some peppery alcohol. There was a bunch of sediment. A lot of malt in the flavor, caramel, candy sugar, spices, and alcohol. To me, this tasted more like a barleywine than a tripel; not much belgian yeast flavor. Alcohol warming present.
