ElGaucho (1721), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Dec 27, 2005 Bottle. Batch 40. Dusty aroma. Sounds, and looks, like a soda being poured. I mistakenly poured it into a tumbler before realizing what style it was, and then transferred it into a tulip glass. Despite a small lasting head and lace being present in the tumbler after first pour, all of the head left the glass after the second pour almost immediately, although plentiful and lively carbonation continued to pour up from the bottom, seemingly being produced by the small amount of sediment that made it into the second pour. Hazy amber in color. Doesn’t taste right upon initial tasting. Could it be possible that the tulip glass was dirty? Alcohol hammers the palate at first sip and coupled with the strong dust aroma, caused me to gag. Flavor is peppery and tough to swallow. I am now wondering if I poured it too quickly and got too much of the sediment or if the double pour screwed up the beer somehow, or if the 2nd glass was dirty. I wouldn’t think that any of these would cause issues like this, however. Is it a bad bottle? This is simply not a very enjoyable brew. Very alcoholic inital and aftertaste. Harsh and dry and tastes unfinished. I had to pour most of it out. This has to be a bad bottle.
ucusty (1016), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 26, 2008 Batch 39. Dark amber pour with fizzy head that quickly dissipates. Brandy, fruit, and sweet malts. Flavor is fresh baked bread, candi sugar, honey and dark fruit. Spicy finish BMan1113VR (782), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Jul 28, 2008 Batch 34 thanks to kyzr. This beer is unlike any other tripel that I have head. Pours with a small, rocky quickly dissapearing head that left no lacing covering a hazy dark amber body that is way too dark for the syle. Aroma of brandy, plums, cherries, raisins, raspberries, sugar and honey. Taste is yeasty with fruits (rasisns and currants), canilla and candi sugar. Taste is good, but not faithful to the style in the slightest. On the syrupy side and nearly flat (again not too style). Alcohol is pronounced for 6%. Unsure how old this batch is. A good beer, but not a tripel in my book! Last 1/4 of the bottle, when added to my glass turned the beer the same color and clarity of mud. Batch 38. Deep golden color with an off-white head. Strong nose of alcohol (port wine/brandy) caramel, raisins and honey. Taste of raisins, pepper and spice. Nice finish. gunnfryd (2732), Kristiansand, Norway Jun 30, 2008 Bottle. Coppar colour with an off-white head. Aroma is alcohol, yeast, caramel, peppar.
