Hair Of The Dog Ruth is best served at cool, cellar temperatures (40-50°F) and enjoyed from a traditional pounder or from your favorite drinking vessel. This regular offering from HOTD pours up nice and lively with more than ample carbonation that creates a short-lived, lacy white head that sits atop the slightly hazy, golden-sunset body. The hugely fruity aroma is decidely hop oriented with plenty of grapefruity, citrusy tones with just a light oxidative note that detracts some from the overall impression. The flavor starts off with some graininess from the pale continental malt, but the hop bitterness eventually takes a strangle hold. The marked bitter finish is surprisingly dry and slightly thin. This medium-light bodied hand-crafted APA is well suited for drinking in mass quantity and certainly has a refreshing quality, but lacks some depth and finesse compared with world class examples of the style. Try pairing this one with some freshly steamed mussels or baked clams served with a healthy side of butter-herbed potatoes. "Don’t be Ruthless. Have one on Granny." Here’s to Granny Ruth! CHEERS! Bottle sampled with Mad_indian at Issac Newton’s. Pours golden with a thin sliver of a white head. Aroma of flower, pale malts, and slight hops. The flavor is flowery, sweet, with a subtle hoppy bitterness in the finish.

Sampled at Issac Newtons with stegosaurus. Clear golden pour with quick dissapating head. Flowery aroma and taste with a citrus finish. Interesting brew.

12oz bottle. Pours a bright pale yellow color with a generous white head. Aroma is slightly biscuity and yeasty with a hint of fruitiness. A touch of hops in there too. Taste is smooth and sweet, very mild with some fruitiness. Incredibly drinkable. This is a good session beer. Refreshing and very easy to drink. Doesn’t compare to the other HOTD brews but is good for what it is.

Bottle. Pours a nice hazy blonde, looks just a brown shade or two away from a wheat. Almost no head, even with an aggressive pour. Sweet, sugary aroma that I can’t really pin down, maybe peach. Taste of sour apple, grain, lemon, pretty quick off the palate, nice and refreshing. A winner. Update-- This beer seems to satisfy no one - hopheads want some more aggressive bitterness, Belgian fans probably see this as a weak imitation, and the average drinker wouldn’t know what to make of it. But IMO Ruth adds up to more than the sum of its parts and benefits from having hints of so many different flavors. It’s easily preferable to the other easily available ’easy drinkers’ out there and always has a place in my fridge.

12oz Bottle pours out a clear Gold (clear for Hair of the Dog that is pretty odd) Aroma and tast of grain. This one is pretty thick for a golden ale.

Bottle: Clear yellow gold with a little unfiltered look. The aroma is sweet and grainy and the taste is interesting. It has a little zesty bite to it reminiscient of lemons. The aftertaste seemed weird to me. But, ok for a golden ale. Definitely not my favorite. Thanks BuckeyeBoy for sharing!

carbonated honey color with decent white head. Faint citrus aroma. Citrus and grass in the body.
