KyotoLefty (202), Kyoto, Japan Sep 15, 2008 Draught at Beer Belly.
Wheat malt, with a strong sour edge and a bit of funk. Citrus mixes with banana and spice. It had a very dry finish that was both sour and bitter. A very original and interesting beer. I wouldn’t call it a full-on lambic, but worth a try. miketd (375), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Aug 17, 2008 Draft at Ushi Tora. Pour is golden/rust with tiny white head. Aroma is very subtle...mild tartness and yeast. Flavor has a mild sour note with some sweetness and yeast as well. Highly carbonated. Pretty interesting beer. I wish they had gone full on with this one...it’s a tad tame. IslandHaole (1030), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan Oct 5, 2007 Dark gold, slightly cloudy. Reminds me a bit of a Hefe, sweet fruit, some banana. A cross between a hefe and a pale ale? Sweet malts, dusty. Decent flavor but way too sweet to drink more than half the can. I prefer the sake I had that night! BückDich (4558), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 1, 2007 Updated: Oct 7, 2007Bottle: Hazy copper, light white head, nose of apricot and vanilla, light cream and toasted pale malt. The flavor is wheatish with fruit, acidic mouthfeel, nice sweet candy notes, some vanilla. Tart and pasty. Light hop and an upfront bitterness, nice light mouthfeel but a decent body and some full fragrant aromas and flavors. Thanks Tim! Tap @ Beer Belly: Clear gold, nice white head and lacing. Nose of wood and cobbwebb, dust, honey, tons of old clean wood and lightly tangy malt. Full body, pleasant intense tail. Capa (738), Yokosuka, Japan Sep 26, 2007 Lightly hazy gold with a thin head. Aroma is tart cherry, spices, yeast and floral. As it warms some slight earth tones come out, the spices become a bigger player, and the tart cherry slips down a level or two. Nice, medium body with proper (maybe a bit low) carbonation. Flavor is much more wit than lambic. Spicy, yeast, banana, dough, some soft fruits, and a very light tartness that really sets it off. Has a nice, and interesting, bite during the finish. This is a complex, well done brew. Is it a lambic? Aroma says maybe, flavor says probably not. Regardless, it’s a very enjoyable beer.
