riversideAK (1579), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jul 21, 2008 Well I guess I am going to be the first one to not like this. Had on tap at Brouwers. Pours a dark reddish brown with a thin head that eventually left. Aroma of dark fruity malts and some yeasty spice. Almost vinous in a way. Dark fruit up front in the flavor. Some malty undertones followed by more vinous fruit. Pretty malty, but something seemed off to me. Like all Hales, I thought there was a funky vegetative thing in there. Like pickles or something. I might be wrong but that is what my notes said. It was also the 6th beer of the night. I just couldn’t get down with it. It didn’t drink as well as the others said it did. The finish was a little warming too.

Aroma – Nice Belgian yeast aroma with a light sweet fruit aroma lingering.
Appearance – Dark amber in, light head and clear.
Flavor – Nice deep rich Belgian flavor this was a wonderful brew. The fruit and malts and added hops where great.
Palate – Nice crisp Mouthfeel, good texture with a dry finish.
Overall – This is one of the best Belgian beer I have had.
bhensonb (2880), Woodland, California, USA Aug 22, 2008 Bomber from PC Market of Choice in Eugene, OR. Beautiful, clear, mahogany color with a multifinger beige head. Aroma is nutty, yeasty, and hinting of citrus zest. Medium body with smooth, creamy carbonation. Flavor is spice, roasted caramel, and a smidgeon of bitter. Finish is light candi, and it’s more sweet than bitter. Rather silky. It could have been different, but it’s damn good as is. ditmier (189), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 17, 2008 2008 Bottle - Pours med brown with a small off-white head, aroma is hazlenuty malts, yeast and a bit o citrus...flavour follows, fruity malts, booze, bread and a bit of bitter on the back end...better than I expected given that I am usually disappointed with Hales..decent dubbel... kyzr (915), Bozeman, Montana, USA Aug 15, 2008 Bottle thanks to riversideAK.
