tcruicks (282), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jan 2, 2007 Red-brown in color with almost no head. In the aroma there is caramel, brown sugar sweetness with some straw-hay and a good deal of hops. The sweetness in the aroma is not really present in the flavor- instead, both the alcohol and hops are strong, and its very bitter. I also detect some fruit (grapes maybe).
lb4lb (1605), Austin, Texas, USA Jan 2, 2009 Bottle in trade from thethrone. Thanks! Pours a dark but clearish maroon color with short lived light tan head. Smell is tea and lighly citrusy with some lemon and sweet malts. Taste is very smooth with lightly sweet tea like and fruity malt flavor followed by a mild to moderate hoppiness with a lingering light bitterness. Pretty well balanced. Perhaps slight alcohol in the finish, but still not bad. A bit thin, bodywise, but solid. CheersMate1 (350), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Dec 24, 2008 Dark brown. Deep dark brown. Very deep alcoholic malt smell. The aroma is pungent, of course. There is a somewhat sweet aroma. Not extremely malty taste. There is not much of a hop or malt or even alcholic bite to this one. It is a milder barley wine. There is a nice bitter finish. This is a weaker form of barley wine. There is the alcoholic taste. Overall, this is a decent mild barley wine. With a nice pungent smell and nice alcholic/hop/malt taste. Also, there are also a lot of floaties in this one. BeerBunker (250), Burbank, Illinois, USA Dec 7, 2008 2007 bottle. Pours a dark red, with minimal tan head. Moderate carbonation. Aroma is of hops, citrus, dark fruit, and alcohol. Taste is of citrus, hops, and pine, with a malty backbone. Lingering caramel booziness after each sip. Nice alcohol warming feel. Thick mouthfeel. Very drinkable. tupalev (2385), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 26, 2008 2006 bottle, courtesy of Mabel, shared with her and Jerc. Nic boozy aroma, malty, sweet. Dark brown, no head. Mild taste - boozy, more malt sweetness. Straightforward but enjoyable. boFNjackson (645), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 26, 2008 Bottle... Poured deep ruby with a thin head that faded immediately. Aroma of plums and other fruit and raisons. Unaggressive palate for a Barley Wine. Tasted good but could have been more bold. Mellow chocolate notes mixed with sweet buttery toffee and dark malt with some raison over tones.
