Old_Mr_Crow (1046), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 3, 2006 On tap at the brewery.
Radient dark brown with no head. Toffee malt and a hint of smoke on the aroma; moderately rich sweet malts with smoked almonds for the flavor. The beer is close to entirely flat, albeit with a reasonably full mouthfeel.
I had high hopes for this one based on a few comments from friends; I was let down a bit. It’s drinkable, but not really a standout in any sense. JorisPPattyn (4514), Antwerpen, Belgium Apr 21, 2006 Draught Chestnut, very clear; small disappearing head. Bit malty & bit peppery, but very discreet nose (note: very bad circumstances for smelling). Caramelly, sweet but not overly so, little bit roasted, finish is more hoppy. Balance is OK, attenuation too. Just not very great. Smooth & creamy & nitrokeggy... Good body without more. Best I had from Hale’s but again, freezing cold, and the brewpub has a concentrated food smell of garlic and pepperoni...
