Gusler (2656), Tucson, Arizona, USA Dec 28, 2000 A winter warmer for sure! a strong ale for sure, world class a given. Dark brown, malt at the start, and a nice hop spicy finish that lingers, lovely beer to be sure.
SuperDave70 (723), Arizona, USA Aug 18, 2008 Clear dark reddish brown pour with a small ring of tan head. Light aroma of dark fruit, sweet smoky malt, and some dark bread. Flavor is along the same lines. Hints of caramel malt, raisins, spice and nuts. Medium bodied and a touch of spicy hops on the finish. Not bad at all. greenhorn1 (368), Eugene, Oregon, USA May 25, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours dark burgandy, no head, light carbonation, zero lacing. Sublte smoky malt and dark fruit aroma. Flavors of cherry, raisins, and a sweet finish. A bit thin for the style and somewhat one dimensional. Bockyhorsey (1961), Mesa, Arizona, USA May 24, 2008 Bottle. Fruity sweet aroma. Brown body with thin head. Flavor had a good dose of sweetener. Caramel and licorice flavor also present. An alcohol spicey bitter burn on last gulp, spice must of settled to bottom of glass. Sweet sticky laquer covers the palate and the aftertaste lingers. Decent brew. OldGrowth (1269), Cary, North Carolina, USA Apr 28, 2008 bottle, from trade with 5000.
Good aroma, sweet. Root beer, earthy notes, minor spice. wheat bread. Brownish orange color, touch of haze, small head that faded quickly to nothing. Sweet flavor, roasted malt, caramel, dried fruits, raisin. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. Well I wasn’t gonna say I liked it, but I did drink it fairly quickly so it wasn’t a turn off. Flavor had some contrast from aroma, but they overlapped here and there. cstuartj (240), Washington, USA Apr 16, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dirty redish brown with a tan head. Laced a bit on the glass. A bread yeast/malt nose. malts and sweetness on the attack with a bit of earthiness and bitterness for a finish. not bad overall.
